In today’s society, abortion has, over time, become a large topic of discussion. It is a major debate within politics, among feminist movements, and in many other ways throughout the world today. With all the debate and discussion surrounding the topic of abortion there are many different views on how abortion should be handled. There are some who consider it wrong to take the life of an unborn child while others claim that the child is unborn therefore does not have any rights as a human. Many people, when discussing abortion, typically do not listen much to the other arguments leading to an inconclusive solve for the problem at debate. Some believe that women should choose what happens to their body and what happens to their unborn child, these people believe in pro-choice. Others choose to believe in pro-life, that once a child is conceived it is a human and they consider it murder to abort an unborn child. Some who are pro-life also believe it is selfish to abort an unborn child. It is not fair to abort a child when there are some who want children and cannot have them. Those who are pro-life believe that other options are better than abortion such as adoption. While those are the typical sides taken within the debate of abortion, there are some who choose one side with exceptions and some who believe that abortion should only occur within a certain time period of the pregnancy. Those who take this side of the argument typically choose pro-life with exception to those women who were raped, are too young, have underlying health issues, etc. that could compromise their own well-being. The question under argument is should abortion be legalized for any reason such as health issues, cases of rape, the age of the girl, etc. or should abortion never be legalized.

Abortion, by definition, is deliberate termination of a human pregnancy. With all the debate among what should happen with the legality of abortion, there are many different sides. Some believe in pro-choice others in pro-life and some believe in one or the other with exceptions of their own belief. The argument that a woman may have an abortion under certain circumstances is a popular belief among many people and seems to be probable cause for many abortions. For example, one woman decided to have an abortion due to financial matters along with school and her relationship with her father and mother. Some believe that these circumstances are enough to justify the decision to get an abortion yet others feel that adoption would be the better option in a situation like this. Many argue that the only probable cause to abortion is if the women is a victim of rape or there are other underlying reasons that may cause the mother harm or the child has health issues that may prevent them from living through birth or even before birth. These are the cases that some use to argue that abortion is acceptable yet these people only consider it acceptable in these specific cases like these. This side of the argument does not believe in abortion necessarily. Those who take this side still do not believe that a woman should abort their unborn child. With this being said there is still the question of what should be done with the legalization of abortion. All the arguments surrounding abortion it is hard to determine whether it should be legalized or made illegal yet no one is suggesting making it legal with restrictions. Most people in the politic world are attempting to decide one or the other and not taking into consideration that it could be legalized under circumstances of rape, health issues, etc. A solution seems to be impossible to come to even though there are obvious solutions to this issue.

Abortion should be legalized under extreme circumstances such as rape, underlying health issues, depending on if the woman is too young, or any other circumstances that would cause any other option for the child such as adoption to not be appropriate. Adoption is a healthier possibility for the child and for those women who are pregnant. Abortion should never be the option for women lone because they are scared that they will not be able to afford or raise a child. If they are still capable to carry the child throughout the full term of pregnancy they should consider adoption over other options such as abortion. No child should be aborted for any reason such as financial issues, school, an absentee father figure, unemployment, the opinion of the woman’s parents or family, etc. These reasons alone are no excuse for someone to not be given a life. None of these reasons should cause the prevention of a child from being given the gift of life and the opportunity to have and live a great life with a family that loves them and truly wants them. Every child should be given the opportunity to live and good and full life, in no such argument is there an appropriate reason for a fetus’s life to be taken before they are born unless there are extreme circumstances that have influenced the decision to have an abortion.

A woman could be traumatized by a situation involving rape or have underlying health issues such as a heart condition, autoimmune disorder, kidney issues, etc. causing abortion to be a the finest choice for her and her child. If a woman is not in a good condition, such as financial issues, to have a child and care for the child, at that point adoption is a better opportunity for the child and for themselves. Not only is this option better for the woman choosing what to do with her body but it will help families who desperately want a child and cannot have one themselves. Adoption will also give a child a real chance at life and will allow the biological mother to live with less guilt knowing that her child has a better life now and was not killed by her selfish decision. Those who argue this point of pro-life state the argument that it is considered selfish for a woman to abort the child for what she believes to be a reasonable cause when the child can still be given a good life. Not only is abortion a good choice for the child but it will be less of an emotional toll on the woman. Both abortion and adoption can cause different emotions to run through some women but adoption can have less of an emotional than abortion would. There are plenty of loving families that are willing to adopt a child and give it a good life, why would someone want to take that away from the child?

Woman all around the world face many issues when attempting to make a decision that’s best for them and their fetus. Woman in this situation face many critics believing that they should never choose abortion and others who support them and their decision’s. Yet there are some who argue that a woman should only have an abortion under certain circumstances. Abortion should only be chosen when there are health issues compromising a healthy birth for the child and biological mother, if the child was conceived due to rape, etc. Those who are a victim of rape have a slight case concerning abortion. It can be considered understandable if the women would like to terminate a child conceived by rape because she may not know the health history of the biological father, would not like for the child to discover how they were conceived, etc. Although some would argue that there are better options for that child such as adoption or lying to the child about his or her biological father, although lying to your child is considered negative it is better than killing them before birth. In the situation that a young woman was raped and is considered too young to have a child (i.e. younger than 16) this woman should be given the opportunity to choose abortion.

Abortion should also be considered if there are health issues compromising a healthy birth and life for the mother and the baby. At the point in the pregnancy that a health issue is present in the unborn child that may lead a hard life, a short life, or the death of he or she abortion is an acceptable option. No woman should go through a full pregnancy to have her child pass away suddenly unless she chooses to. In these cases woman should be given a choice of what to do regarding the birth of their child and regarding their body. Yet, if the woman has a mental health issue but is still seen as fit to carry a child through the full term of pregnancy than she should not be given the opportunity to have an abortion. There should be no reason that a woman should have an abortion if she is considered fine to carry a child in which case the child can be given up for adoption. However, if the woman is not seen fit to carry the child through pregnancy because of a mental health condition abortion is the best option. Abortion is the best option in this situation because if she is deemed mentally unstable she could potentially harm the child while in utero. Another cause for abortion is if the woman is addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. In this situation abortion is an option for the woman because the unborn baby could already have extensive damage or will end up with extensive damage causing many health issues and a potentially bad life for him or her. Under these circumstances abortion should be seen as a decent option for the woman, the child and for those who care for the life the child would live if it were born.

Although certain circumstances for abortion is a popular opinion when discussing the debate against abortion many still believe in pro-life, there is no reason or circumstance to abort an unborn child, and those who believe in pro-choice, the woman should have control over what happens with her body. Pro-life advocates choose to believe that there is no reason, no extreme circumstance, nothing that should prevent that birth of a child. They believe that even an unborn child has rights and does not deserve to be aborted because it can be seen as murder. Those who are pro-life, typically, chose to believe that the soul enters the body at conception. Pro-life advocates consider abortion to be murder because, although the child is not born yet, it is still a human and deserves a life. A majority of pro-life advocates are also involved in a church, religious organization, or have a belief. They argue that the bible states that no person should be killed and that, even though they are unborn, they are still a human being, a gift from God, and deserve to have a fulfilled life. They believe that no matter if the child has genetic abnormalities he or she should not be subject to overt discrimination. Civil rights are provided to protect those born with disabilities by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 backing up pro-life advocates argument that there is no reason and it is unjustly to abort a child due to mental illnesses. Those who are pro-life also advocate that an abortion can lead to further health problems for the mother. In 2003 study estimated that about 15% prior induced abortion procedures influenced first trimester miscarriages. Those who choose pro-life believe that the other options such as adoption, abuse programs, health regimens, etc. are a better way to go than what they believe to be murdering an unborn child. They also believe it is wrong to abort an unborn child because he or she cannot fight for themselves, there is nothing that the unborn child can do to save his or her own life from being taken for no real reason.

Pro-choice advocates believe that the woman has the right to terminate her own pregnancy if she so wishes to. Those who advocate this side believe that it is the woman’s body and that the fetus does not have rights therefore the woman should be permitted to choose what happens with her body. Pro-choice advocates argue that the personhood of a fetus begins once the fetus is able to survive outside of the womb, not after conception, arguing further that they do not have basic human rights because they are not surviving on their own. Advocates also argue that fetuses are unable to feel pain during an abortion procedure therefore claiming that it is acceptable for an abortion to take place. Much of their argument also stems from their belief that woman denied by clinics are more likely to face domestic abuse, to be below to poverty line, become unemployed, and be on public welfare. Studies show that those who are denied are in fact three times more likely to fall below the poverty line. Pro-choice advocates also suggest that abortion reduces welfare cost to taxpayers. It was found that banning abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy increased the federal deficit by $225 million over a nine year period due to Medicaid coverage increase. Pro-choice advocates fight for woman to have the choice they want, the choice to choose what happens with their own bodies and what happens with their conceived child.

Health complications, victims of rape, those who may be too young to carry and give birth to a child, etc. are reasons for woman to be given the opportunity to have abortions if they so choose. Although there are plenty of reasons why a woman should not have the choice to have the procedure and many reasons that a woman should have her own choice many believe that it can be legal with these exceptions. No one should be stopped from choosing what occurs to their body and to their unborn child yet an unborn child should not have their life, that has not even begun yet, taken from them for reasons that are not substantial. An unborn fetus should be given the chance at a fulfilling life, it should not be taken from them because of reasons that do not cause immediate harm to them, the mother, or any other reason that is not critical. A woman should not choose to have an abortion because she simply does not want to pay tax on the child, does not want to be judged by others, due to beliefs of their, because of family members, an absentee father figure for the child, etc. Unless the unborn child is in harm’s way, has an illness that will lead to death, cannot be carried safely throughout a full term of pregnancy by the mother, etc. then there should be no reason that adoption or another option, such as a care facility to help the child and mother, then abortion should not be considered. Abortion should be taken more seriously by some, it is a type of murder and the unborn child that is being aborted does have rights and should never be killed for selfish reasons when he or she still has the opportunity to have a full and promising life.

I believe that abortion should never be the first option discussed amongst a woman who is attempting to make a decision that could be the toughest decision of her life. When woman are in a situation involving an unwanted pregnancy they are extremely vulnerable and not to mention they are also pregnant causing there hormones to go slightly crazy at times. I do not believe that woman can make a decision like this to the full of her ability when there are so many people telling her what she should and should not do. I do believe woman deserve the rights and deserve to have the choice of what happens with their own bodies but I do not believe that when it comes to abortion. Abortion should be the last option for a woman who is pregnant unless she is extremely young, under the age of 16, has serious health issues that will cause harm to her and the unborn child, has been raped and is to traumatized to continue the pregnancy, has an addiction that will compromise the child, etc. Unless one of these reasons are in effect with the pregnant woman than the woman should consider adoption if she genuinely does not want this child. I would hope that if a woman was scared that she would not be a fit mother or would struggle to much raising the child that she would either choose adoption or choose a program that could help her and give her the support she needs to love and care for her child. I believe that some arguments are invalid in both the pro-choice and pro-life side of the argument. Pro-life advocates seem to believe that since it is in the bible than abortion should be illegal under all circumstances. I am religious yet if a woman is not then she does not need to follow what the bible says she should do. With pro-choice they believe that a woman should have the decision when it comes to her body. I do not believe in this argument because, with the exception to rape victims, if a woman wants control over her body then she should make sure she is having safe and protected sex. My belief is that everyone should be given the chance to have a wonderful life but I do understand in the given circumstances.
