The brain is both the most fascinating and most vital part of our body. It controls our actions and contains all of our memories. While the brain may be so powerful, it is also a large mystery. Many scientific articles and books have been written through hours upon hours of research and experimentation to teach humans about their most valuable tool. Authors like Cordelia Fine contribute towards such an article, towards the aspect of male versus female discrepancy. In the article “The “Seductive Allure” of Neuroscience” by Cordelia Fine the author argues that there is sex differences in the brain. Her goal is to create an environment where children can learn at the pace that their brain develops.

The author argues that since the brain in men and women develop at different rates that each gender has different advantages. She hopes to achieve a better schooling system that focuses on children's needs when their skills are fully developed. The first point the author uses to prove her argument is when physiologist Leonard Sax said, “Instead, he argued that the problem lies in an educational system that teaches boy and girls the same things at the same time. This is a mistake because, as he explained in the Los Angeles Times, ‘while the areas of the brain involved in language and fine motor skills (such as handwriting) mature about six years earlier in girls, the same areas involved in math and geometry mature about four years earlier in boys’ (Sax 209)”(Fine 209).  This is one of the many examples that prove Fine’s argument that there are sex differences in the brain because it shows different part of the brains are matured and activated at different ages for men and women. By changing the education system to focus on gender differences than equality, boys and girls will be able to progress at their rate instead of being compared to. One reason why not much scientific research has been talked about in the newspapers is because “ they are worried about ‘upsetting’ people, but because it is a sensitive area, and ‘brain facts’ about dependency can change people’s attitudes and feelings about a particular social group” (Fine 213). Although Fine backs up her argument with a lot of information and examples, she does not want to have a bias point of view so she includes this statement from researcher Doreen Kimura.

Cordelia Fine is an academic psychologist and writer who studied Psychology at Oxford University. She is a trustworthy source since she has written two books about the difference of minds between each sex. She has a lot of knowledge of this topic since majority of her information comes from speaking to multiple psychologist and comparing pictures of the human brain that comes from “PET scans, MRIs, SPECT scans, and other biological research tools available” (Fine 210). The author talks to many psychologist and neuroscientist in order to create  a non bias point of view.By doing this the authors article and books will appeal to many people from both genders and also not hurt people's feelings. Although the author does not have any experiences involving herself to prove her argument, she studies the difference of brain activity between the two sexes on a daily bases since it is her job. This shows she is a trustworthy person who has gained knowledge over the years of studying psychology since she graduated in 1995. It is seen that the author wrote her books intended that people studying the human brain and development would read it. Many people ahve read Fine’s work since she is a regular contributor to the Popular Page of the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Monthly and New Statesman. Besides writing the two books “Testosterone Rex: Unmasking the myths of our gendered minds” and “Delusions of Gender: The Real Science Behind Sex Differences” she is also the editor of “A Mind of Its Own”. This proves that Cordelia Fine is an authoritative person who is known in the literature world.

This article was written during a time when men and women are believed to be equal. Fine states that if research isn't done right people will become upset. She believes that  “Neuroscientist who work in this area have some responsibility for how their findings of sex differences in the brain are interpreted and communicated. When this is done carelessly, it may have a real and significant impact on people’s lives”(Fine 212). It is evident that all research Fine does she is very carefully observed and recorded in order to make sure she makes no mistakes. The author takes her job very seriously and does not take a bias approach to prove her argument. It is obvious that the author has moral values or else she would do further research not caring who it affects.
