On July 21 2016, Donald Trump make a important speech at the Republican National Convention. In his speech, Trump listed many problems included national security, poverty and criminal existed in American society , and he He sums up the culprit of these problems to a term - political correctness. “I will present the facts plainly and honestly. We cannot afford to be so politically correct anymore.” This sentence became his famous quote ran through his whole campaign. Despite the siege and satire of the mainstream media in the United States, he still defeated the Democratic candidate Hillary Hill with the great advantage and became the 45th president of the United States. So why political correctness, this seemingly vague concept, aroused the sympathy of a large number of voters. In my opinion, behind the scene, is nowadays people are so sick of dogma which US political correctness brought in this society.

In modern history, politically correctness labels are generally found in communist countries that regard cultural Marxism as the core idea such as USSR and China. Referring to the political correctness of the modern history of the movement, people's first impression is often like the Stalin’s Great Purge in Soviet Union and the Chinese Cultural Revolution directed by Mao Zedong. Moira Weigel, a a writer and academic, in her article “Political correctness: how the right invented a phantom enemy” which published on Wednesday 30 November 2016 in Guardian.com. In this article, she said that “If you go looking for the origins of the phrase, it becomes clear that there is no neat history of political correctness (in western Countries)...most Americans had never heard the phrase “politically correct” before 1990,” This information has proved that On the basis of politics, compared with one - party dictatorship of the communist system that existed in Communism countries, the United States has no political and ideological ideas and demands that are consistent with a political party or an ideology. In fact, the debate on political correctness in US lies mainly in the level of social issues such as racial, gender, sexual orientation, and multiculturalism. It purpose is to promote the use of right term of words and the implementation of some political measures to avoid offending and discriminating against vulnerable groups in society, eliminating social conflicts and creating a more tolerant social environment. However, such a seemingly beautiful ideology, has been resisted by today's society. In my opinion, the reason is nowadays, the political correctness of the United States is gradually evolving into the totalitarianism of cultural Marxism, it is becoming an invisible spiritual yoke, silence the people’s voice and covering social problems.

At the moment, people argue most about political correctness is freedom of speech. One and half years ago, I made a presentation about “The commercial value of artificial eyeball” in EAP class, When I opened my mouth and said“Hi, guys....”, the teacher interrupted me and told me that there are female student in this class, I should switch to “Hi, everyone...”. In my speech, she also told me to switch “blind people” into “ visually impaired people” and describe them with “physically challenged” not “handicap”. This is the first time I experienced how political correctness influenced US society. Under the influence of the American civil rights movement, the whole American society began to realize the serious social problems caused by racial problems. Since then, any of the public expressions that relate to Vulnerable Groups issues must maintain a high degree of sensitivity, anyone cannot casually vilify the image of Vulnerable Groups. Although the United States does not have the law expressly this, but this has become a stealth law, all we can give it a more certainly name - speech code. For example, people should call black people "African Americans". Same with “Oriental people” switch to “Asian” etc. After all, every country has it own scars, one of the biggest scars of American, is its discrimination problem. On a certain language level, the speech code created by political correctness did help reduced the pressure of discrimination brought to social. Jack Goncalo, a professor of organizational behavior at Cornell, and his team to study the actual effects of political correctness. To examine the benefit that political political correctness bought to people, his team assigned 264 undergraduates to either single-gender or mixed-gender groups, and gave them 10 minutes to come up with ideas for a business to fill a space left vacant by a closed restaurant. The result illustrate that for mixed-gender groups, talking about political correctness appeared to increase creativity: The groups that had that discussion came up with significantly more business ideas than those that didn't. “This shared understanding,”he explained,“really makes people more comfortable just sort of freely expressing themselves.”(North, Anna. "The Benefits of Being Politically Correct." The New York Times. The New York Times, 10 Nov. 2014. Web. 23 Mar. 2017.) This research does provide strong support for political correctness. However, Research at the academic level can only be used as a reference. In fact, when political correctness is promoted to society, it raises a series of difficult problems. After some of the events, people began to wonder whether the "standard" of political correctness can adapt to this social environment or not. In Aug 11, 2013, a report from “the blaze” said that a Florida beach safety officer was fired on Friday after he referred to Trayvon Martin as a“thug”on his personal Facebook page. ("Florida Officer Fired After Calling Trayvon Martin a‘Thug’on Facebook." TheBlaze. TheBlaze, 11 Aug. 2013. Web. 23 Mar. 2017.) According to another report from the Daytona Beach News-Journal. It said that in his termination letter, Department of Public Protection Director George Recktenwald wrote that Snipes (the cop who get fired) had“engaged in behavior that threatens the respect and trust of the community and jeopardizes the perception that the department enforces the law fairly, even-handedly and without bias.”(Gantandrew.gant@news-jrnl.com, Andrew. "Volusia Fires Beach Officer for Racial Messages." Daytona Beach News. Daytona Beach News-Journal Online, 09 Aug. 2013. Web. 23 Mar. 2017.) Let us just put away the truth behind the famous case “Shooting of Trayvon Martin” that George Michael Zimmerman is guilty or not. This cop - Todd Snipes, a beach officer of 15 years, lost his job just because he called Trayvon Martin a thug. From my point of view, this is unbelievable. Obviously, it is indeed a disrespect for the deceased in the language of discrimination. But it is inconceivable to dismiss him with a punishment.

If anyone still think that this is not a big deal. Let me point out another case. Christ rock, a famous comedian in Hollywood. Talk about racist when he made speech in 2016 Oscars ceremony: "Man, I counted at least 15 black people on that monitor. I’m here at the Academy Awards, otherwise known as the White People’s Choice Awards.” he said. He also claimed that “Hollywood is sorority racist.” (Oscar.go.com. N.p., n.d. Web. 23 Mar. 2017.” Howwever, in the later stages of the broadcast, host Chris Rock introduced “the accountants”, He illustrated the stereotype that Asians are diligent workers who excel at math.“If anybody’s upset about that joke, just tweet about it on your phone that was also made by these kids,” Mr. Rock added, a punch line interpreted as a reference to child labor in Asia. (Ryzik, Melena. "Chris Rock's Asian Joke at Oscars Provokes Backlash." The New York Times. The New York Times, 29 Feb. 2016. Web. 23 Mar. 2017.) For this case, it is so absurd that while Chris Rock publicly denying Oscar racial discrimination, he used a joke to discriminate against Asian people. If a policeman can lose his job just because of a discredited word, then how Mr Rock’s racist joke in the Oscar can get ignored by the media? There is a word used to said that “I disapprove of what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it”. (The Friends of Voltaire,1906) From these two cases, we can see the reason why society is now more and more think political correctness is overhead: The speech code from anti-discrimination in political correctness has trend to compress the space of freedom speech. US law prohibits discrimination, but in the specific implementation process, it has been mistakenly distorted, understood and executed by politically correctness. At the same time when it draw a moral red line in the mainstream of the United States, for those protected minorities, they can have the privilege to freely speak. To some extent, the speech code creates a new social discrimination, or we can also called“Reverse discrimination”.

From the information including the article and scholar evaluation essay, it seems that many people already see through the problem of political correctness in US society. However, We rarely see someone standing out in public places to point out it mistake. In my opinion, in the American society, there is a invisible strong force in the impetus to promote political correctness. The people who manipulate this force are the elite of the United States. Eight years ago, in Obama president speech “Yes, we can”, the most word he said is “change”. However, right now after 8 years, problem still exist. High unemployment rate and crime rate, drug flooding, social gap between rich and poor still perplex US. In fact, political correctness has become a tool for the American elite to plunder the interests of the general public in the United States. Just like the speech code I mentioned above, in deeply analysis, the intention of speech code is used by the elite people to divert public attention and cover up social problems. In the pressure of speech code, the more formal open the occasion, the less people who dare to say the truth. If anyone said it, then he will be considered crazy. So obviously the United States faced with deep war, the economic crisis, the tide of unemployment, the proliferation of drugs, the bottom of the people are more and more whirlpool. However, the elite status do nothing but only use propaganda machine like TV and social media to persuade people to discuss homosexuality, racial equality and anti-abortion these so called political correctness things. Just because of this, when a cop shoot black people, we can ignore how firearms problem threatened law enforcement officers life, we can ignore the soared crime rate caused by social poverty and put this things into racist case. The same things also happened in Trump’s interview about build border wall.("Fox Host Praises Trump's Wall Proposal: "We Have Gated Communities And There Is Nothing Wrong With That."" Media Matters for America. N.p., 01 Mar. 2017. Web. 24 Mar. 2017.) In this interview, the FOX host question about Trump that why he build the wall on the border of Mexican but not Canada, and she called Trump as a racist. However, the truth is nowadays US drug abuse, several southern states threatened by Mexican drug traffickers, Mexico's turbulent illegal immigrants problem is a serious threat to the southern United States security situation. In that case, Trump’s plan is to build wall to prohibit illegal immigrants get into US.( Julie Hirschfeld Davis, David E. Sanger and Maggie Haberman. "Trump to Order Mexican Border Wall and Curtail Immigration." The New York Times. The New York Times, 24 Jan. 2017. Web. 24 Mar. 2017.) Although this is not a good way, but at least it is a positive policy that make implementation of the US immigration law and control the proliferation of drugs. However, the mainstream media in the United States never discussed the feasibility of this policy, but instead focused on the alleged discrimination, which is it against politically correctness. When Trump said the solution to the problem, the mainstream media is talking about the attitude of the problem. But the attitude itself is not any problem, not in Canada to build a wall in Mexico, the reason for the wall is clear, that is, Mexicans are more likely to take drugs illegal entry, and Canadians will not - all understand, but that is not People dare to speak in high-level public, that is racial discrimination, that is, make the enemy to entire mainstream media in the United States. But they may not realize that just because of this excessive political correctness, it sent Trump - a business man with no political experience and background to the presidential candidate's throne. Last year in July, everyone was still saying that Trump could not get the Republican nomination, just a grand clown, but nowadays, Trump has become the president of US. “You are not gonna solved the problem unless you are willing to talk about what the problem is.” Trump’s word broke the silencer which political correctness put on the public. It also tells us that the American society, which is torn by political correctness, is the time to move to the right path.
