Today, media is a huge influencer on how we dress, act, and eat from commercials and TV shows to magazine articles and popular books. Many teens rely on the media as a guide on how they should live life day to day. The media tends to glamorize everyday objects and events to make life seem more dazzling. A problem with this aspect of the media is that common mental illnesses are included. Depression affects roughly twenty percent of teens before they reach adulthood. I believe depression is portrayed incorrectly as a bad mood that can be fixed with something uplifting like wearing bright colors. Although this could temporarily help some for a short period of time, depression is a serious condition and the media is treating it as if it is a onetime occurrence of a bad day.
