Currently, majority of people are more willing to acquire news or information from an internet application such as Facebook and Instagram, which are also regarded as social media. The traditional media like newspapers, radio, and TV no longer control the news industry like they did ten years ago. There are some important data about social media use. Today, around seven out of ten Americans use social media to connect with each other, engage with news content, share information, and entertain themselves on a daily basis. Research showed that in 2005 only 5% Americans used at least one social media platform. In 2008, however, the number of social media users had risen to 50%. Nowadays, roughly 69% of Americans adults use some type of social media. The popularity of social media, on the other hand, starts to influence the public opinion in a variety of ways. For instance, the fake news on Facebook and Twitter directly influenced the outcome of the American election in 2018. Public opinion was distorted by those negative fake news. Because of the interactive and convenient of social media, some people even believe that the social media will completely replace the conventional media in the future. This essay is going to illustrate why social media may replace the traditional media from several aspects and argue for the positive influence it will bring to ordinary beings when the social media became the most popular news transmitter. This essay will focus on three perspective which is normal user, business user and political user.

First of all, the younger generation was born with the popularity of Internet; they had the privilege of enjoying things such as blog, Wikipedia, YouTube, and most importantly social media such as Facebook and Twitter. Most of them prefer to use social media to acquire information. For instance, the current generation in China was quite familiar with this technological change . When I was in elementary school I used to buy specific sports newspaper every week if I want to obtain the newest NBA information.. After middle school, however, everyone around me including myself started to use the internet to gain the information. After five years, I started to see famous writers who used to write for the sports newspaper before began to write through the social media platform.. Addtionaly, there are some people who believe that using the social will make people’s daily life better. Engaging in various forms of social media is a routine activity that research has shown to benefit children and adolescents by enhancing communication, social connection, and even technical skills. Social media sites such as Facebook and MySpace offer multiple daily opportunities for connecting with friends, classmates, and people with shared interests (Kathleen 2011). There are two kinds of applications that exist in the internet right now, and the media also use different ways to upload and spread their news. The first kind of application was enforce to create personal communication platform. For example, there is an application called Wechat in China. The original purpose of this app is to provide an instant messaging service likeWhatsApp or Facebook Messenger in America. After a series of explosive increases in registration, the company became more ambitious. After experiencing an exponential growth, the company became more ambitious. They also wanted to expand their business to the media industry. A function was created called public account. Each business company can create a public account which can help the corporation to post their daily work directly to their customer or follower. The follower also can repost those updates to their moments which is regarded as a personal space that only open to user’s friends. People always make friends with people who have the same hobbies. Because of this, these articles may be repost over and over again to other millions of users. T company can then gain more opportunity to create a better company image, increase public relations, and keep people updated. . This benefit, on the other hand, is more suitable for individuals., More and more writer began to use this function. Because some famous writer original obtains an enormous group of fans. The second kind of application is Facebook which is completely a social platform. User can also communicate with their friends on Facebook. Facebook, enables its users to present themselves in an online profile, accumulate “friends” who can comments on each other’s pages, and view each other’s profile. Facebook members can also join virtual groups based on common interests, see what classes they have in common, and learn each other’s’ hobbies, interests, musical tastes, and romantic relationship status through the profiles (Ellison 2007). But the biggest difference from the first kind of app is that many celebrities, sports star and even president will have account on the Facebook. There are clusters of people in the social media who does not post anything and just paid attention to information posted by celebrities. There is another advantage to the development of media industry in the social media. People can communicate immediately with other person who may be in a totally different place behind a news in the social media. For instance, a newspaper producer posts an earthquake in the newspaper and publish it tomorrow. In this situation, for the people who live in a remotely place, they only can know this thing until the next day and talk with people who are close to them. However, If the newspaper, however, uploads this news in the social media as soon as possible. People around the whole world will notice and react to this news. When you click on comments section, you will see people come from different place communicating together. Because of these superiority of social media, more and more newspaper producers transfer their main business into internet. They started to upload the brake news by using social media account.

The benefit of social media can not only benefit regular people, but it can also benefit business users. The emergence of Internet-based social media has made it possible for one person to communicate with hundreds or even thousands of other people about products and the companies that provide them. Thus, the impact of consumer-to-consumer communications has been greatly magnified in the marketplace(David 2009). For business user, the most significant factor for them is to choose which media platform invest based on the number of user. Because for the business user, all of them are the potential corporation to advertise in these platforms. At the end of the day, most business are driven by profit, and more users means more profit.. Consumers are adopting increasingly active roles in co-creating marketing content with companies and their respective brands. In turn, companies and organizations are looking to online social marketing programs and campaigns in an effort to reach consumers where they ‘live’ online. However, the challenge facing many companies is that although they recognize the need to be active in social media, they do not truly understand how to do it effectively, what performance indicators they should be measuring, and how they should measure them ( Andrew 2011Ten years ago, company started to transfer their attention from radio media to television media. Because people no longer use the radio to gain news and for entertainment wildly anymore. The TV replaced the role the radio played and kept this kind of importance tile now in our routinely life. Currently, a new round of media revolution has started.. Due to the characteristic of easy access, people became more willing to use internet to gain news and for entertainment. Based on the demand of customers, business users will also exchange their strategy to concentrate on internet advertisement. On the other hand, there is another strength that social media obtain. Sometimes user will unintentionally receive some advertisement information. For example, if people want to watch a short video that is posted by other people on Instagram. There are usually 5-seconds advertisement before the video starts. Most of the time, the watcher will just ignore the ad and wait, but the watcher has actually already received the information contained in the advertisement. Adversely, when people saw advertisement in the TV, they almost always will immediately change the channel. This phenomenon will cause most advertisement on TV to be ineffective. In the internet media, the mode of advertisement is completely different which is more effective and cheaper. For instance, in YouTube if you do not have a subscription to a premium service called YouTube Red, videos you watch will have several short advertisements. The most significant reason why YouTube continues to be so popular despite the advertisements is that YouTube allows its users to skip the advertisement after 5 seconds. The time window is just right that most people will watch and wait the 5 seconds. The arising of internet helps the public to have the capability to accept vast information in a short time and also boost the lifestyle of ordinary. People no longer have time to watch or wait for some tv show in a specific time. Currently, the mobile play application is more prevailing in our society. People would rather watch the highlight moments of sports games in the social media platform r than to watch the whole game. If you are an Instagram user and a sports fans, I believe that you defiantly follow plenty of people who posts edited sports video You will also realize that each of the short video can attract millions of people to comment and repost. Most of these videos will also accompany with great numbers of athletic equipment advertisements. This kind of the mode to advertisement will bring unimaginable profit to the corporation. Because advertising in this social media account will directly communicate to their first audience. In the case that we mentioned before, the people, who follow these kind of the social media, may also play this kind sports in the real life and have a need to require such specific equipment. Because of these reason, the business users are more willing to see that the social media replace the traditional media. In addition, the company will now have a faster more effective way to reply to the negative news immediately in the internet. Companies and their brands as well as politicians, governmental institutions, and celebrities have increasingly been facing the impact of negative online WOM(word of mouth) and complaint behavior. In reaction to any questionable statement or activity, social media users can create huge waves of outrage within just a few hours (Carley 2013). In the traditional media, companies only can reply the negative news in the next day with a press conference. Because the newspaper and TV station have a strict routine arrangement. So, the announcement which response to the negative humors will usually be arrangement in next day. However, the situation for social media is a completely different story. The organization can upload an announcement through their social media account immediately to respond to their customers and stakeholders. If the company handle it in a proper way, the company may even obtain the public attention and attract more customer.

The prevalent of social can also impact the operation of government. The effect of social media in political matters is unknown. It seems that the government still do not know how to use the power of social media in their advantage. Because of the frequent communication on the internet, the opinion of public will become a force that can’t be ignored by the government.. The attitude of government is quite neutral between control social media or lose it. The American government already gain both loses or benefits from social media. For instance, in the 2016 American election, there is a group of Asians on Facebook that earned a living by creating thousands of fake news stories about the candidates in the 2016 American election. Recent evidence shows that: 1) 62 percent of US adults get their news from social media (Gottfried and Shearer 2016); 2) the most popular fake news stories were shared more widely on Facebook than the most popular mainstream news stories (Silverman 2016); 3) many people who saw the fake news report believed it (Silverman and Singer-Vine 2016); and 4) the most discussed fake news stories tended to favor Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton (Silverman 2016). At the beginning, the crew just wrote the same number of news for Trump and Hillary. However, After several months, however, the staffs noticed that the new which were against Hillary will always attract more views and popularity. More views mean higher click rate and more advertisement profits. So this group began to create more fake stories that were against Hillary. We can not say how these fake news stories forthrightly change the consequence of the election. But those news did indeed affect the public opinion of Hillary. On the other hand, Social media platforms such as Facebook have a dramatically different structure than previous media technologies. Content can be relayed among users with no significant third-party filtering, fact-checking, or editorial judgment. An individual user with no track record or reputation can in some cases reach as many readers as Fox News, CNN, or the New York Times (Hunt 2017). In the Netflix series called “the horse of cards”, the main role named Frank who is the democratic congressman show to the audience that how government use social media to attack their political opponent. The low requirement of writing online will result in dangerous s consensus to each side. However, if the government lead the public voice in a correctly way, the social media will also benefit the operating of government sector.

After analyzing the three perspective users of social media, it is clear that social media brings more benefit to these three different specialize groups. Because of the characteristic of frequent interaction, high-speed spread, and the lower requirement of identity authentication, individual and formal or informal organization are more willing to use social media rather than traditional media. The conventional media did seek a way to survival this radical change. They began to publish their journal online and register a social media account to better reach their audience . We believe that the layout of newspapers here may change, but the content is still in the form of news. Even though the conventional media have their own online versions, they have not fully embraced the new technology. Even if there is a drop in circulation, it would be because the younger generation prefer the new media as they are more interactive compared to the online version of mainstream(Salman 2011)
