I am very interested in this topic for my research question because of its effect nation wide on society and culture. Also, I am interested in it because of the affects it could have on my life. This research question affects my values as a person and makes me question my personal values. It has me considering if my beliefs on the subject are ignorant or if the opposition is ignorant. It also has me thinking if my thoughts are narrow minded or do I need to take another step back and take a look at the problem from a larger view. I have seen people in my life claim to be apart of this group or national movement called Black Lives Matter. To be apart of this group it could be as easily as tweeting something out or sharing a video with your thoughts. Through my experience from seeing people I know and good friends that feel that being apart of this movement is the right thing to do, and they blinded support what people say and share videos even when what they are supporting is false. The group Black Lives Matter uses their influence to spread a message of hate instead of a message of peace and love causing a unrest in the public, which has directly lead to riots and the deaths of cops. The group Black Lives Matter needs to change the focus of their message to peace in the community and work towards integrated the cops with the public so the cops can build friendly relationships with the citizens they are supposed to protect. I am qualified to write about this topic from my personal experience and through the immense amount of research I have done on the topic. I have analyzed three specific articles in depth that all hold different points of view, which give me a deep understanding of the multiple sides of this argument.

The first source I have obtained is from CNN titled, The rise of Black Lives Matter by Sara Sidner, and focuses on information about the group and how it came to be what it is today. The information focuses mainly on the positives of the group and "the group is ... trying to find [their] footing"(Sidner). CNN is a major company that works around the world it has many interests at stake and it has to show certain values to not cause uproar, especially by the Black Lives Matter community that is mainly based on social media and a link can spread like wild fire. The author of this piece is very credible as a multi-award winning author and as a journalist who has been covering this movement from the beginning. Since this is more of an informative piece it allows for little bias, but since she works for a larger company that is known to have a more liberal bias it would be shown through the publication of only certain facts.

The second source is The Truth of 'Black Lives Matter' from by the Editorial Board from The New York Times. The articles central claim is that the name 'Black Lives Matter' and the way this movement goes about their issues is incorrect, but that the group means well. As one of the largest newspapers in the world, it has many interests at stake and that may have them hold back from certain values from being shown. The Editorial Board is filled with well-seasoned journalists and editors with various cultural backgrounds. They are all very credible, but may hold some bias, which would cause them to hold back on the criticism of the group and to talk about more on what they are trying to achieve.

An article from the Guardian titled, Rand Paul tells Black Lives Matter ... , written by Tom McCarthy is my third source. This is an informational piece that supports Rand Paul's criticisms of the group Black Lives Matter and how other politicians agree, but are unable to state their opinions with out intense scrutiny, such as O'Malley. This article is from a smaller company so it doesn't have many interests at stake, which allows it to attack more at the subject with less restraint. The author is a credited writer and most of the article is quoted from politicians. This does create a bias because it is focusing in support of the politicians, but also remains a step away from the situation and properly analyzes the quotes.

This question is very arguable because the world is filled with various opinions of this "movement" on a very wide scale. Many people believe that this group is very positive for the nation when other people believe it is only bad news or that it is misguided and if put in a new direction it could be very beneficial. The views vary in the sources that I have chosen. It has many disagreements from helping America realize race issues, being disruptive and destructive, and allowing ignorant people to gain power. Seeing many different perspectives allow me to view my own ideas and see where I may have been wrong and where I was right. It also helps to further develop my argument to provide more solid support. This might make me need to revise my research question to something more broad or to change my focus of the argument.
