As the debates heat up, a common topic of interest is abortion. Whether or not it is or is not acceptable in today's society. For decades the question has been at our hands and continues to stir controversy. The solution is not a yes or no answer, but instead, a question of when. To say that abortion is never acceptable is a stretch, and to say that abortion is always acceptable is immoral. Every life is a blessing, and should be treated as such. To kill a life, even one that is unborn, is not okay in all cases after 20 weeks, but is acceptable before then in the case of rape, incest, or to benefit the health of the mother.

Growing up, I knew a number of young ladies who became pregnant and were not mature or financially stable enough to support a child, one of which was in my class. After her abortion, we all took note of the significant change to her attitude and personality. An abortion not only detrimental to a mother's ability to get pregnant again, but to her mental health. Many women are dramatically scarred after an abortion and are more likely to fall into a depression.

After a substantial amount of research from both stances, pro-life and pro-choice, and gathering information from surveys, articles and polls, I've got enough knowledge to make a well informed opinion.

The main claim of Paul John's "3 Ways to Make the Pro-Life Argument to People Who Don't Care about the Child," is why abortion is wrong, just not for the baby, but for the mother. Abortion increases the risks of breast cancer and depression. Suicide rates among those that have had an abortion are six times higher than those who have not. This source focuses mostly on logos, although everyone does not consider a fetus a baby and believes it is the mother's choice, they need to know what the risks are for the mother. This source is credible because it was published by liveaction.org, and organization that focuses on speaking of the negativity behind abortion in a way everyone can understand.

The purpose of the "U.S. Abortion Statistics," website is to provide strictly facts so that one can make their own opinion. The facts were shocking, shedding light on number such as, one out of three women in the United States has had an abortion by the age of 45. Half of the woman in the United States have had an abortion in their lifetime for reasons such as, they are not ready, cannot afford to support a child, do not want to be a single mother, have all the children they desire, and/or do not want people to know they have had sex, or are pregnant. Americans have aborted 48, 589, 993 children since 1973. This site is credible because it has conducted many surveys and other types of first hand research.

The purpose of Abortion ProCon.org. is to give reasons why some are pro-life and others are pro-choice. The website is an unbiased and offers a fair share of information from both sides of the spectrum. They give reasons such as, abortion is murder and the fetus feels pain as a reason for pro-life, but also say that abortion is a fundamental right guaranteed by the constitution to support pro-choice. The website is credible because it is written by an organization that focuses strictly on abortion and addresses both stances.

Many believe that the life of the child is part of the mother, therefore it is her choice whether to carry the pregnancy to full term or to abort it, while others believe that the life of a baby is not a choice that any one person should have, because it's a life that God made. The sources I read agree that abortion is a serious decision, where the disagreement begins is who should be responsible for this decision. Where some of the other sources disagree on whether the process of abortion is safe physically and mentally. The question of whether abortion should be legal is one of morals and will never have an agreement across the board, because no two people have the same morals.

The different perspectives opened my eyes to see that there is not always a clear cut answer, sometimes there are exceptions. I cannot expect everyone to have the same beliefs and morals as me, because everyone does not have the same upbringing or religious background as me. These conclusions changed my question from, "Why abortion is unacceptable" to "When abortion is acceptable."
