Earlier this year, House Republicans voted to stop funding planned parenthood. They want to completely cut off the federal financing for the organization because they believe that Planned Parenthood is making profits off of selling aborted babies for medical research. The Republicans believe that the the organization is morally corrupt. I am interested in this research question because Planned Parenthood does so much for women and men around the nation, much more than just abortions. Three percent of all services of the organization are abortion services, clearly showing that the organization has much more to offer than just carrying out the procedure. I believe that the government should continue funding Planned Parenthood because 97% of their services are non-abortion services and helping the general public, everyone deserves the right to a proper healthcare, and the organization has saved people internationally by providing health services to those in need.

This topic is important to me personally because not only do I think that everyone deserves to have the freedom of making their own choices regarding abortion, I also believe that the organization helps people in ways that some doctors and other organizations cannot by offering treatments of sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy testing, cancer screening, and prenatal services. When I am older and want to start a family I want to have the option of seeking help through this organization or an organization similar to this with profitable health care.

The research question, "Why should the government continue funding Planned Parenthood?" is arguable because there are so many different opinions regarding abortion and the Republicans seem to blame the organization for the procedure being available, when in reality only 3% of all Planned Parenthood services are dedication to abortion, offering so many more resources to help families with affordable health care so they can raise a healthy child. I need to find more articles about the Democratic standpoint of the issue and why they believe that the funding should be continued so there will be more of a political side to my argument. I would like to make my research question a little less focused on just the aspect of abortion and more into the organization itself.

My first source is an article from Women's Issues titled "What does Planned Parenthood do?" which was about the specific services that the organization provides. According to the article, 3% of the organizations services are abortion services, 38% are testing and treatment for STD's, 33.5% are for contraception, 14.5% are cancer screening and prevention, and 10.4% are other women's health services. The author is showing the reader's that some Republican political leaders were giving false information about Planned Parenthood being only used for abortion, when obviously that is not true. The author is biased because she is supportive of Planned Parenthood and thought it was very wrong that political leaders were giving out false information.

My second source was an article from the NY Times titled "House Republicans Vote to Stop Funding Planned Parenthood" which was a news article about the government wanting to block all funding for the organization because they were accusing them of getting profits from selling body parts of aborted fetuses. The article gives quotes from Representatives and other political leaders arguing about the issue. My political views are very independent, I agree with some Democratic views and some Republican views, but in this situation I agree with the Democratic leaders. Personally, I think that these government officials had a very wrong image of Planned Parenthood as an organization as a whole. They are focused so much on the abortion aspect that they are forgetting about all the other services the organization has to offer for the public, considering their name is 'Planned Parenthood' it is obvious that they have a lot of resources for actually raising children. This is credible because it is a news article with direct quotes from government officials. It does not contain much bias because it is just telling the audience about the Republicans views and the votes to stop funding but the author is just reporting it, not saying his opinion about the issue. However, the New York Times is known for having a Democratic standpoint on most issues which could cause a lot of bias in news articles.

My final source was an article from US News about the ongoing attempts of Republicans to stop funding Planned Parenthood once and for all. They believe that the organization is morally wrong and is just a simple way to carry out an abortion. There has been no evidence of anything illegal that the organization is doing, however, the Republicans are making it seem that way while protesting this issue. They argue that funding the organization is a moral issue and that the three hundred and fifty thousand dollars of annual funding to Planned Parenthood needs to be stopped as soon as possible. There is little bias in this article because it is a news report, reporting the opinions of the Republicans, not the author himself.

This article tells the audience that in a certain case against Planned Parenthood, the grand jury decided not to charge the organization with a crime because they believed that there was not even evidence against Planned Parenthood to charge them with a serious charge and believed that they must follow the evidence where is leads them. This source is bias because the author is telling the audience how there is no real evidence against the organization. This article will help me in my future research because it shows how hard some government officials are trying to de-fund the organization even when there is no real evidence to do so.

Before reading this article, I knew a lot of information about how to carry out abortion

and where to go, what it was, and that there is a very heated debate that has been going

on for a very long time about the issue. After reading this article, I found it very disturbing that a

woman could face up to life in prison because they got an abortion without "proper reasoning"

issued by the judge. I cannot imagine that happening in the United States. Now, the laws have

been changed so that victims of rape and a few other circumstances can still get abortions

without being criminalized.

In this article, Milligan tells the audience about abortion in Northern Ireland, being one of the strictest areas about abortion laws. Until this past December, only two months ago, abortion in this area was illegal for any woman unless their life was being threatened by being impregnated. If someone who did not under these circumstances carried out the procedure, they could face up to life in jail. Now, a judge made new requirements about women getting abortions. This leads into abortion laws in the United States and the what seems never ending debate about whether or not abortion should be legal.

This article is about the tragic event that happened at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado. An armed male killed three people in this clinic and left an entire shopping center in hysterics. After this deadly attack, Planned Parenthood has decided to reopen the clinic. This article shows how so many women and health care providers are victims to peoples opinions and judgments that make them do insane things.

Another strong article is arguing between the ideas of "pro-life" and "pro-choice" about abortion, arguing that the only real choice is whether or not abortion is going to be safe and legal or if it is going to be dangerous and illegal. This article has bias because the author is telling the audience that abortion will never truly be stopped so it should be legal because people are going to do it no matter what the law says. This helps me with my future research because it is something that I really agree with and can be used to support my argument very strongly. This article shows a video about the more republican and "pro-life" point of view about Planned Parenthood as an organization as a whole, showing very disturbingly graphic images of aborted fetuses that Planned Parenthood allegedly sold body parts from. There is an extreme amount of bias in this video because it is showing horrible images associated with the organization. This will help me with my research in the future because the video tells the audience how the organization was accused of these awful acts, but never actually charged due to lack of evidence, therefore supporting my argument.

My research question is, "Why should the government continue to fund Planned Parenthood?" and has two very distinct sides to the argument. One side is the Republican, pro-life, side and the other one is the Democratic, pro-choice side. Planned Parenthood in the recent years was blamed with selling aborted fetuses and it took a huge toll on the entire organization. Some of the Republicans in the government wanted to vote to stop funding Planned Parenthood because they believe they commit illegal crimes, and think that the organization is only really used for abortions, when in reality only 3% of the entire organizations services are abortion services.

The Democrats believe that the government should not stop funding Planned Parenthood because of all of the health care services that they offer, and of course being pro-choice when it comes to the topic of abortion. The issue of abortion in the entire United States is a very heated debate and topic to talk about, with so many different opinions about whether it should be legal or whether it should be illegal. However, my topic is not about the abortion aspect of Planned Parenthood, considering that 97% of their services are to help soon to be mothers, kids, and even men obtain the proper health care that they deserve, even if they cannot pay for it. When I grow up and my parents no longer pay for my health care, I want to have the ability and options of going to Planned Parenthood to keep my family and I healthy even if I cannot afford to have my own healthcare. This organization makes that possible for so many people in need, and I think that it is very important for people to realize how much Planned Parenthood does for people all over the country, and really put less emphasis on the abortion aspect of the organization. I believe that the government should continue funding Planned Parenthood because 97% of their services are non-abortion services and helping the general public, everyone deserves the right to a proper healthcare, and the organization has saved people internationally by providing health services to those in need. Yes, you can schedule to abort your baby at a Planned Parenthood clinic, but only 3% of anything they do is abortion services which is why people need to stop thinking about the issue of abortion every time the organization is brought up.
