I played video games ever since I was five years old. I still remember asking my mom for an XBOX at ten years old because I watched my cousins and uncles playing Halo. Video games are a huge part of my life so I knew I wanted to talk about a topic that impacted me personally. I played violent video games all through middle school and high school. I also watched violent video games played in elementary school and I can say that I turned out ok, but that's not the case for everyone. I see the harm in how violent video games affect impressionable kids so I take this topic to heart. As an adult I work with people every day dealing with people that let video games affect their emotions and I developed a career out of it. My career is that I own a team that revolves around a video game (League of Legends) and I manage the team daily in terms of their schedule and modifying the team's roster. Throughout my career I have seen people cuss out other people over video games so I think I have a lot of experience that will enable me to talk about aggression and video games. My research question involves the topic of video games. I analyze how violent video games affect kids. My paper argues that violent video games cause kids to develop anti-socialism and anger when they grow up so people need to be educated on the affects that violent video games can have on them.

The first article I read is called "Deciding to Defect: The Effect of Video-Game Violence on Cooperative Behavior" by Brad E. Sheese. The article talked about how violent video games have a harsher impact on young children because they're at an impressionable stage in their lives where they're still developing as human beings. The evidence of the authors' claim is their experiment where they tested young kids playing a violent video game and a non-violent video game and analyzed the results. The authors are credible because both authors have credibility as psychologists that are a part of the University of Purdue so they have the credentials to perform psychological studies and give accurate psychological readings on how children are affected by violent and non-violent video games. The article was made to inform the reader of the impact that violent video games can have on children. By informing parents of the impact of violent video games then parents might not buy the games for their kids.

The second article I read also discusses the effect of video games on children. The article is called "Video Games and Adolescent Fighting" by Michael R. Ward. Michael Ward, is an economics professor at the University of Texas so he has no formal experience with psychology. His article talked about how violent video games need to be regulated so children aren't able to buy them. The article's evidence is the psychological studies that the article references that say that kids who play violent video games tend to develop violent behavior. The article really values the children that the violent video games are affecting and is biased towards the effect the games have on children while ignoring the fact that by regulating the sales of violent video games, the companies that sell the video games are gravely effected.

The third article takes a different approach as to why kids play videos. The article is called "Gamers Crave Sense of Control: Feeling Competent Matters More than Violence, Blood" by Laura Sanders. The author is credible because she has her work published in a journal about science so that shows her renown in the field of science that would allow her to make a credible opinion about a psychological effect on people that play violent video games. The article talked about how people play video games so they can have control of their situation and not because the game contains violent killing. The evidence the article uses is that they did a survey and asked gamers why they played violent video games and their response was that they wanted freedom to do whatever they wanted in a video game. The article was made to contradict the rising theory that video game violence causes aggressive behavior. The article gives a reason why gamers play violent video games to dissuade the reader from thinking that video games cause kids to become violent and instead help kids gain control. The article specifically accomplishes this by receiving testimony from people that play violent video games instead of getting the opinions of people that are analyzing people who play games.

Violent video games is a touchy subject, because it is not easy to identify the cause of a psychological condition such as aggression or anti-socialism. The problem is arguable though because some people agree that video games can cause kids to block themselves off from the world and also can cause them to become angry at people, but others argue that video games can serve as a release and that violent behavior is caused by things that have nothing to do with video games at all. The sources I have read all agree that video games cause a psychological effect on people, but the disagreement lies in what the psychological effect is. Some sources also agree that the psychological effect is strictly violent behavior in children and the sources use psychological studies to back up their claims. The relationship between these sources shows value because if sources all agree on the same thing then that shows that their claim is more credible and if the sources disagree on something then that shows that video game violence is an arguable topic. I always thought that violent video games were just a fun game to play, but I noticed my friends get upset and use vulgar language when they played these games. However some of the sources have shown me that there can be other reasons why kids play video games that does not have to do with violence. Considering how the sources have altered my views I will use my paper to call for education about these potential psychological effects to prevent kids from developing them.
