Living in an age of technology and constant progression, many questions circulate through the mind -- specifically, how technology affects our world today. I personally believe that technology is affecting our world in a negative way by slowly but surely, destroying it. Growing up as a Christian, I was familiarized with phrases such as "technology is the antichrist", suggesting that technology will be humanities down fall. My father once said "Why would Apple trademark make their logo a bitten fruit which resembles Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit in biblical time?" After speaking to my father, I've found interest in the negative effects of technology on the world. Many people today would argue that technology has helped our society, which in part is true but I personally believe that in the long run technology will do more harm than good by affecting the mind, body, and soul.

Technology effects three aspects that of most importance in our life which are the mind, body, and soul. The mind is negatively affected and manipulated by technology where constantly we think about what's going in with our phone. We no longer have time to or the want think independently because we have technology. Technology effects the body in the way of consuming us where we do not go outside and be active. Technology is the reason behind increasing obesity. Lastly technology effects the soul in the way of being the anti-christ. I would compare technology to the devil, where we are forced to do things that are not good for us. Technology is negatively effecting the individual, which is destroy our society as a whole.

As previously stated, technology has many negative effects on our world. In the article "The Four Negative Sides of Technology", Pamela DeLoatch discusses what she believes to be the negative effects of technology on today's society. DeLoatch states that "technology is effecting the way children think, the way children feel, privacy and safety risks, and lack of physical activity leading to obesity." Technology has so much power and capability that it can alter the wiring of the brain, effecting a child's ability to empathize, understand or share the feelings of another child/adult. Think about how much power that is -- and whether or not it is entirely justifiable for us to be so dependent upon it. Another thought in cohesion with DeLoatch is that a surplus of our information is on the internet -- nothing about the internet is entirely private, exposing us adults, in addition to children to everyday privacy and safety risk. Lastly, technology draws children from physical activities increasing their chances of obesity. Take into account children who already are born with obesity as a genetic health risk -- now you are adding to the risk by introducing our over-use of technology to the mix. To conclude the article written by DeLoatch, she offers solutions that address our problem which consist of monitoring the use of technology, teaching responsible usage, being familiar with technology, using classroom technology intentionally and offering alternatives to the technology. DeLoatch's article is biased towards technology effecting our world in a negative way. One could trust her biased because she is a credible online journalist for Euduemic, an internet news/research site.

Now that your mind is open to how technology is negative, think, could too much technology destroy our world? -- Viewpoint, an online news page writes an article posing this same question. In the article "When is too much? The Negative Effects of Technology," they state that although technology is beneficial to our world, the negative effect that is has must be addressed. The article proposes that social interaction is a fundamental human need and technology can be a distraction. Many models, studies and theories show this but unfortunately our interactions today mainly occur online which is ultimately harming society. Technology also has an increasing effect on our health. The article states that our society has converted to an inactive lifestyle becoming lazy by following the monotonous daily routine of working, eating, watching television and sleeping. In addition to all of that, technology has affected our nation's health by increasing pollution. Research shows that children from age's five to twelve, have had a decrease in lung function following the exposure to air pollutions. The bias in this article is towards technology negatively affecting our world. The article written by Viewpoint is a credible source because they use quotes and data from other credible sources. The company has been around for some time creating many articles on several major topics. This article shows how negatively technology does in fact affect our society.

The internet is a daily used global computer network that doesn't only help us but also harms us. In the article "5 Amazing Things Internet May Have Ruined", Michael Poh's claims suggests that the internet has helped us connect with the world, but it also has come with a price tag. This price tag rings up with the cost of privacy, reliability of information, copyrights, genuine communication, and work life balance. Our dependence on the internet has revealed some of ourselves and personal information to the public because of the lack of privacy. Thus compromising our personal privacy, leaving us open to be more likely be stalked or followed or something even more unimaginable. The internet today has many blogs and websites that are low cost where anyone can publish no matter the credibility. This convenience leaves society with the question of how reliable the information we seek out, actually is. The internet has allowed for information to be lifted from other sites and used on multiple different sites. Today, the use of email, chat, and messenger are in effect, taking away the interaction of genuine communication; our society has lost the quality of communication. The time spent on the internet has blurred between work time and our personal time. Our daily life and work life have been tied together into the widely used internet. The internet has affected our society in more ways than are known. Poh ends his biased argument by saying that although the internet has negatively ruined our society, the internet can never end our sense of creativity. It's difficult to follow an author who isn't as credible as the next person but he (Poh) does have experience writing articles and makes great points.

The research exigence of the effect of technology can be argued because technology has both negative and positive effects on our society. Any statement that has to do with either the good or bad of technology can be rebutted against at the same time. Throughout my sources, I have found they all agree that technology is beneficial for our society, but it is also destroying our society at the same time. Privacy has been an issue throughout each of the articles. The articles provide different explanations that all tie in to my main exigence. They have strengthened my viewpoint, placing a more reliable or comforting explanation behind my thoughts. As for addressing my issue, I will address both the positive and negative effects of technology rather than just holding a biased, uneducated opinion of technology destroying the world.
