What is happening to the current generation and children with technology and social media at their finger tips, changing their self esteem and possibly making them more lonely. I tend to be on my cell phone for a good chunk of the day. I'm either texting my friends, checking Instagram, VSCO, snapchat, twitter, and anything else that can take away my boredom. Lately, I've realized how almost anti-social social media can make us. When you are walking to class, or sitting at a restaurant or cafeteria a good majority of people are on their phones. Even when their friends are sitting right across from them. In my personal experience I have been one of those people and it makes me sad to think about. This topic interests me a lot because I'm interested in how much people change socially, and even physically from social media. Also, to see how my younger siblings or other people will grow up differently because they are introduced to technology so much earlier than I was. My parents also always talk about how I'm on my phone too much, and to have no phones at the table because they are a huge distraction. This research exigence I believe will help me not be so dependent on technology and try to be more social than always being on my phone or curious as to what all my friends are up to. I'm qualified to write about this because I am first hand experiencing technology and social media also at a time when I need to be more social in internships and finding jobs. Also, I will be looking up a lot of case studies and articles on technology and the way people are effected.

Three sources I found best were a case study done on high school students, and two articles written about the effects of technology. The case study was done to determine how technological distractions affected the student's study habits. It came to conclusion that the students could only concentrate for an average of three minutes before checking their phone. They even check it when there isn't even a notification to remind them to. This shows how technology and cell phones have become so involved with students lives they can't even go a few minutes without them. The man who conducted this study was a professor at California State University, making him qualified. His bias towards the topic was that students are too attached to their technology.

The first article was more focused on children and the effects of technology on them. It claims that children will feel and think differently because of technology. For example, children may be good at finding information on the internet and looking things up but may not be good at remembering it or using their own imagination. Also, how technology puts privacy and safety at risk. The author made sure that she isn't insisting to cut out all technology but to cut some of it out. The author is definitely biased towards technology being too much in our lives. She is a credible author because she writes for an education and technology website.

The next article was more about social media and the negative effect on society and individuals. Social media can give people a false sense of connection because you can't determine a real relationship over words on electronics. Social media can also lead to cyber bullying and less productivity. The author of this article is credible. He has been professionally writing since 1991. He is biased towards social media hurting our society.

My research exigence is arguable because social media is more of a newer concept. People love social media and technology because you can get answers to anything in the world if just a few clicks. We can also connect with people we haven't talked to in years, or meet new people who have the same interests. We can see what all our friends are up to and all the latest styles. But then many believe we are to dependent on technology and need to lay off. Some people are too into social media and it can make one depressed when they see someone who looks like they're having a lot more fun then they are. In order or address my issue of technology and social media in 2,500 words I will talk about specific ideas people think we should do about technology and social media taking over society.
