The research question I chose was "is internet addiction real, and how does I affect society?" I became interested in this topic because the internet now has a vital role in society. Human beings have incorporated the internet into every facet of our lives, from social interactions, to entertainment, to business, to shopping, and finally to learn. Seeing how humanity deals with internet as a resource fascinates me, and the possibility of an addiction to it is in my opinion inevitable. My values were not affected by this research question because I have already accepted that fact that internet addiction is a real problem, I simply wanted to know how it is affecting society now. However, when researching this question I did question my internet usage, and I wondered how it affected me. The internet is something that almost every American interacts with, and I interact everyday with the internet through either schoolwork or social media, so through my personal experience, I would not say I myself am addicted to the internet. Internet addiction is an idea that most likely I will come to experience in the future through me or someone I encounter. I am qualified to speak about this because I deal with the internet on a daily basis, and I also have a basic knowledge on how the internet works.

The central claim from the Cyber Junkie: Escape the Gaming and internet Trap, is that video games and the internet is detrimental to younger people. The author, Kevin Roberts, makes the point that because of the internet people`s behavioral patterns have changed to where they would rather communicate online than in person. The major theme from the article is that video games and the internet in general are hurting how humans do within society. Roberts makes the claim that video games and online gaming causes children to do worse in school because they refuse to schoolwork and play video games instead. Roberts has almost no credentials besides being recovering from social media and video game addictions. There may be some bias against online gaming because Roberts would like to really get people to abstain from video games more to combat these addictions.

In Are Social Media Websites Harmful? many topics arise from limited physical activity and limited social activity. The author, Sue Scheff, brings up the point that most topics from the internet that are grossly misinterpreted leading teenagers to do many things they should not. Some of the major values from the article is the safety and concern of the future for teenagers and or young people. Scheff also presents that addiction causes the individual to become dependent with all facets of life to the internet. Scheff is the founder and leader Parent's Universal Resource Experts which tries to help troubled teenagers because of this she may be biased to try to convice people that the internet has too much bad in it to be helpful.

In "Relation between Depression, Loneliness, Self-Esteem and Internet Addiction," a study was conducted to see if there was really a connection between symptoms of depression and self-esteem and internet addiction. In the article it was found that there was a relation to loneliness and depression to be linked to internet addiction. However, there was almost no connection between internet addiction and self-esteem and internet addiction. The major values from the journal was to scientifically prove if there was a correlation between internet addiction and depression and self-esteem issues. It was found that were some correlation with depression and loneliness. Finally I believe that there are credential for the authors of the journal because it is in a scientific journal, and that they actually were trying to prove if internet addiction actually had effects on humans.

My research question is arguable because the concept of internet addiction is fairly new, and most people could say that internet addiction is a threat to society because the internet has become so integrated into our daily lives that living without it is almost impossible. My sources agreed that internet addiction is a real addiction that has a real effect on humans and how we interact within society. The different viewpoints made me question my own perspective and made me look at the topic in ways I had not thought of before. If I were to revise my research question, I may have changed it to how does the internet affect society.
