The occurrence of crimes is leading to police brutality towards minorities in society. The killings of unarmed suspects is happening because law enforcement officers view minorities as criminals. Has the increase of crimes pressured officers to use lethal force, whether they are in danger or not? Police brutality against minorities not only affects me, also it affects the minority culture because we are viewed differently than whites. Law enforcement officers are supposed to be a reliable resource, although, minorities are mistrusting policer officers because of their aggression towards minorities. The killing of unarmed suspects has been a hot topic in the news that has impacted the minority communities because minorities are being targeted by police officers. All of the brutal images and videos of officers slamming and beating suspects gives me the right to speak out against police brutality to show that this is not the acceptable behavior of police officers. I have not experienced police brutality personally, but I have family that have experienced these harsh beating by police officers. This makes me qualified to write about this situation since a close relative has experience police brutality. Police brutality is being caused by racial profiling of minorities and is leading to mistrust of officers in minority communities.

According to Brad Smith and Malcolm Holmes (2014), police officers are using excessive force against minorities in order to gain social control. The supporting evidence is that police officers are targeting areas with a big population minorities. Police are more likely to use excessive force in minority communities, while they are trained to use excessive force when dealing with minority individuals. The value that is at stake is the trustworthiness of officers because of how they are targeting minorities. Police officers are supposed to be reliable, however the article shows that officer are discriminating against minorities for multiple reasons. The interest of equality is at stake because officers are more likely to be more aggressive towards minorities than whites. Both Smith and Holmes are professors in the Criminal Justice Department which makes think credible because their research is in Criminal Justice. This article is reliable because it was published in a scholarly journal called Social Problems.

The main argument in "Community Accountability, Minority Threat, And Police Brutality: An Examination of Civil Rights Criminal Complaints," is that police are targeting racial minorities at a higher level than whites and minorities are more likely to experience police brutality Police officer see minorities as a threat and is labeling them as violent criminals. Officers are trying to enforce social order, and minorities are a threat to this social order. The officer's authority and trust is at stake because the article show that minorities because of how they are labeled in society. People opinion about the social order is at stake because the author states what he thinks the social order should be. Brad Smith is a professor at Wayne State University and Malcom Holmes is professor at the University of Wyoming who are a part of the Criminal Justice Department, which makes them creditable for this paper. This article is a reliable source because it comes from a scholarly site called Social Problems as well.

In the article, "Ready to Shoot and Do Shoot" states that violence by the police officers has caused minorities to protest against police brutality. The supporting evidence is that police is using self-defense although it is becoming police brutality. People opinion on what self-defense is at steak because of the way the articles defines what self-defense is. The interest of racism is also at stake because the article only explains how police brutality is used against minorities and no other race. The article argues that due to this long existence of police brutality overtime it has cause minorities to begin to defend themselves and their communities. The author Shannon King who is a researcher at the College of Wooster is credible for the source because she has studied the area of Criminal Justice. This is a reliable resource because it also is a scholarly article of the Journal of Urban History.

My research question "Is Police Brutality causing Mistrust of Officers by Minorities?" is arguable because it pose two sides, which has multiple reasoning that can create a justifiable argument. Throughout all the articles they all saw that police brutality was a major issue in society. Police officers are not actually sure whether or not to use force on minorities based on how society sees them. Officers are targeting minorities but the articles have different reasons as to why police brutality is happening, such as in use of self-defense and that minorities pose a threat this affects my personal thoughts of police brutality because it makes me wonder what the actual reason is behind police brutality. To give me enough information to write my final paper I will have to include another situation that ties in with police brutality. I will ask, "Does Racial Profiling cause Police Brutality and Mistrust in Minority Communities. "
