College education is increasing becoming an obstacle for lower income families across the nation. The automatic response by socialist and other political democrats is to make four-year public college free for every United states citizen. In this exploratory analysis you will discover that having government paid public college will do way more harm than good.

There are a few weaknesses within this argument against free public college that must be addressed and fully understood. The strongest argument for the opposition is that college tuition prices are raising at a rate of 3.4% each year for the last 10 years. The opposition believes that the simple fix is to create regulation for these colleges and for the government to pay for these tuition prices for every American who wants to go to college. My argument is that there is a more economic friendly way of fixing the public college tuition problem. That is that instead of the government paying for this price tag let the private sector invest their time and money into more scholarships and programs that help students go to college free.

The interesting facts about this very controversial topic is that it directly effect me and its on a topic that every student agrees with. Students agree that college tuition is a burden unless you come from a high class family. I grew up at the poverty level with the only income that was being brought in was a disability check and no help from my father's side. Because of this financial everyday burden, it stressed my mother out about how I am going to pay for college, when we didn't even have a home to call our own. The left automatically believes that because of situations like my own, college tuition should be free and paid by the Government, well my research says other wise. Not only will my taxes become uncontrollably high, the national debt would grow at a rate that would not be able to see a recovery, but most importantly my education and degree will devalue. The oppositions main point to the topic of free four-year public college is that people like me, with low income situations, are at a disadvantage because of the price tag. There are ways to overcome this finical burden that lower income students seem to look past, the amount of scholarships that are available for lower income students are at a increasing rate. I am able to come to The university of South Carolina for free with enough overage to comfortably live. My hard work gave me the opportunity to come to the college of my dreams. I believe that education is the greatest equalizer that has ever come into being. Educational values are to give students an equal chance to achieve their goals not matter the economical status. This set of believes are called the "American Dream".

College has become a burden for the majority of students and the cost of college is increasing at a rapid rate. "The Cost of Free' College" is about the negative effects that free college would bring. For example, one negative is that students that are higher achieving students will settle for the free college leading to lower graduation rates. The central claim for the " Better Yet, No Tuition" article is that Public colleges are addressing the serious issue of the high tuition cost for low income students. Colleges are working with the private sector to help pay for these students to go to public college for free. Public colleges like community college are lagging in graduations rates. These graduation rates for free community colleges are at 21.1 percent. Research shows us due to trends in free education paid by the government the rate of graduation continues to decrease.

My research was done by some of the top expert in their field. All these authors have experts in their field making them best suit for writing about this topic. Most work for businesses and have ties with the educational system and knows how it works. They are best suit because of their experience and they know how education and economics work hand in hand.

The research question is arguable because there are clearly two sides to this argument and valid points to be made. Both sides address the issue of how difficult it is for lower income students to attend college. Through my research I have found that having college paid by the government will not only increase the debt and raise taxes but give less of a chance for a student to graduate. The different perspectives of the sources affected the overall look on the general common topics through the argument. The persuasive article highlighted most of the bad economical effects that having free college would have on this nations debt. From another source we can see that the economical issue was taken on but in a different way. This alternate economical stance included the effect free college would have on the taxes every citizen would have to pay. Having free four-year college is a step toward the socialist outline of government.

If I got the opportunity to change my topic I would go deeper into the topic of free public college. I would narrow my target group to minority students and research how different cultural background affect on free college. Because education is the great equalizer students should have the same opportunities if they give enough effort into the goal they believe in. When the socialist left wants to give freebies away like free college to students like my self, we as a nation must put our country before ourselves and work hard so we don't receive the governments hand outs.
