I am interested in Millennials because I belong to this group of people. Millennials are commonly known as the people born from the 1980s to the early 2000s. Millennials identify as a group, and they have some common characteristics or stereotypes. This research question affects my values because I value the process of earning things but I also understand the allure of instant gratification. Millennials are known for being drawn in easily by things that are quick and easy. However, this research does not actually represent everyone in the group it simply creates ideas in which the group can be identified. My personal experience regarding Millennials and culture is that I am a part of the Millennials and I experience culture as it has been affected by them. By having experienced culture within my age group I can answer the question, "How is today's culture different for millennials?" Therefore, I am qualified on this topic because of my position as a Millennial. It will be interesting to study the differences between Millennials and non-Millennials because of all the different opinions. People who choose to identify themselves as Millennials are able to explain themselves and create justification for their actions simply because of when they were born.

The Millennials are defined in a multitude of different ways and by many different people. Karen K. Myers and Kamyab Sadaghiani defined Millennials as the "look at me" generation (1). The authors describe what a Millennial is as well as how they are known to act, the ways in which they communicate, their expectations, their ability to work as a team, and how they use technology. The major values at stake in this journal are how the Millennials are viewed by other generations. The journal shows a view of Millennials that could be disputed. The source is biased because it was written by two business women who have a bias because of their career fields. The source of the journal, JSTOR is a reliable source for academic journals but the author is not actually of the Millennial generation so this may be a source of bias.

Another source, written by Andrea Hershatter and Moly Epstein, also discusses the characteristics of Millennials, but in the world of work. They say that, "support [of] the theory that Millennials are fundamentally unique as compared with other generations" and that the tendencies of Millennials are more like other generations than one would think are both common according to surveys that they conducted (212). One of the major interests in this article is the way to manage Millennials because of their differences in generation which changes their mindset completely and creates different challenges. This source has good credibility because of the website it is from which provides online journals and scholarly articles. The source is biased towards a business perspective which is because of the authors.

A study conducted by Sara de Hauw and Ans De Vos found that "the Millennials lower their expectations regarding the work-life balance and the social atmosphere" but are more optimistic about the topic such as job content, training, and financial rewards (293). The major interests of this article were the Millennials entering the workforce as well as colleges. They also mention a decline in the interest of millennials in the academic world. The article also focuses on generational influences versus contextual influences (294). The article is biased because of the viewpoint of the author who thinks that Millennials are important enough to research.

The research question is arguable because one could say that the Millennials do not actually live in a different culture than other generations. Many different viewpoints could be expressed from this question and it is not a simple yes or no question. I have found that different sources express the Millennials in different ways. Some think that the topic of Millennials is hinder some, but some approach them as being a new positive influence to the world. The different perspectives of the sources showed me that there are so many different ways to think about Millennials, in fact many more than I had ever thought of. I know that I want to write about something different related to Millennials but I had difficulty finding any other types of sources that weren't related to the work force. Ideally, I would like to refocus to a topic on the different views of exercise because of Millennials but I will continue to research and find a topic that I am passionate about in relation to Millennials.
