Audi is a well-known German car manufacturer that produces high-end automobiles. During the Super Bowl 50, an NFL football game that determined the champion of the 2015 season, Audi presented a memorable commercial. The ad displayed an older man who seems to have be drained of any desire to live. He was a former astronaut. Once the man speaks with his son, that soon changes. The man's son is a proud owner of an Audi R8. They take a ride in the R8, and the man's passion in life is restored. 

Space exploration is a worldwide prestigious topic. Also, astronauts are respected and admired universally. During the commercial, the Commander is having constant flashbacks of his takeoff into space in comparison with the Audi R8's "takeoff".  Because of this association, the viewer is able to interpret the Audi R8 as a vehicle almost as exceptional as a space shuttle. 

The older man's transformation of moods has a direct emotional impact on viewers. The man starts the advertisement with refusing dinner. He has a hopeless, disheartened attitude. Not only that, but he is shown reminiscing and being nostalgic about space and his former glory. As the commercial progresses, more rocket launch footage is shown as the Commander starts the car. He smiles. The man's restoration of passion gives the viewer hope- a feeling all viewers can identify with. And if that wasn't enough, David Bowie's 1972 song "Starman" begins dramatically playing in the background at takeoff. David Bowie was a well-known rock and roll legend, especially known for being passionate with the stars and cosmos in his music. He passed away on January 10, 2016, no more than a month before this commercial was released. By publicizing this commercial so soon after his death, the viewers are still emotional about this loss. The soundtrack "Starman" playing in the background should be thought of as a remembrance of Bowie. Audi makes this connection with the watchers to gain more popularity. It is a successful, separate tactic used to create a relationship between the commercial's viewers and Audi. It should also be noted that the group of individuals that Audi is mainly looking to advertise to are well-established, middle aged people. While the R8 is a top of the line vehicle for Audi, it is not an affordable choice for most consumers. Audi hopes that by displaying the R8, consumers will look into other Audi vehicles (ones more economically friendly). By noticing the average age that Audi is advertising to, it is even more evident how brilliant it is to include David Bowie and Space in the same commercial. The people able to afford the R8 more than likely were alive during the time David Bowie was starting his music career, and the time when traveling into space with astronauts was beginning.  

While the use of logistical information in this commercial is scarce, it is not nonexistent. The advertisement undoubtedly focuses on reaching the viewer on a more emotional level than anything. The only use of statistics is when Audi announces, "the 205 mph Audi R8 is here," and that barely qualifies as a statistic. By stating the automobile's top speed, the viewer can be impressed with the quality and engineering of the vehicle. The lack of logos appeal in this advertisement takes away from the automobile's performance characteristics and technical specifications. 

The Audi R8, through this commercial, has been displayed as a consumer's choice vehicle. There was a great amount of attraction to viewers through emotion and visual tactics, but lacking in statistical evidence. Overall, Audi's R8 Super Bowl Commercial had intense emotional appeal making it an unforgettable ad.
