Social media is something that has spread so quickly throughout recent years, and is something that has impacted so many people. Whether in a good or a bad way, social media has an outstanding affect on society, more specifically teenagers. My generation especially has grown up centered around social media, which is the reason I am very interested in this research question. While I fully believe that social media has a positive impact in certain ways, I believe that the negative aspect is going to surpass that if something doesn't change. I feel that I can relate very well to the three things because of media being so common in high school and college ages. This affects my values because I feel like myself and many others have become very reliant on social media. I see how the over use of technology is starting to have more negative influences rather than benefits. Throughout high school and the beginning of high school, I believe I have seen first hand the impacts of technology. I have witnessed the affects technology has on my fellow classmates, including cyberbullying, various personality disorders, and the decrease of GPA's and test scores.

Overall there is more cons than pros in regards to social media, as found in the article on ProCon.org titled "Are Social Networking Sites Good for Our Society?" This article mostly talked about the effects technology and social media have on society. Overall there were more cons than there were pros. In the three pieces of evidence I found, there were different statistics which proves the argument of each. These being lower test grades, the correlation of brain disorders and the presence of cyberbullying. ProCon.org is a non profit website that gets all of their information from research and studies. This article presented both sides of the argument along with facts and sources to represent each, while giving enough background information to make in unbiased, allowing it to be a credible and ethical source.

Additionally, in the article posted by ScienceDaily "Pressure to be available 24/7 on social media causes teen anxiety, depression", I found many facts regarding technologies effects on mental health, such as anxiety and depression. This article talks about how the constant need to be on social media has led to an increase in anxiety, depression, and reduced sleep quality among many teenagers. The researchers in this article provided questionnaires and tests in order to measure the correlation between mental health and technology. The responses of the teenagers proved the evidence linked between the two. This primary source gathered research from data and surveys. The researchers in this article found all of their information from studies taken on actual teenagers, deeming them a credible source.

Lastly, the article by Suzanne Choney titled "Facebook use can lower grades by 20 percent, study says" presented many facts about the effect social media has on education and grades. The statistics in this article show the correlation between social media use and lowered grades and GPA. The article states that students who are on the internet while studying tend to average grades 20 percent lower than those who aren't. As well as the difference in GPA between non users who averaged 3.82 and consistent users who averaged 3.06. The author of this article got a lot of her information an outside source, Psychologist Paul. A Kirschnera. Kirschnera was responsible for the specific studies and statistics presented in this article. This article I believe is credible and ethical, as the psychologist gathered his information from specific studies he gathered from U.S university students.

The research question I've presented is very controversial in our society and generation, making it a very argumentative topic. There are numerous sources listing the pros and cons of technology and social media use among teenagers. Each source gave me more than one answer to my research question. Most of my sources seemed to have the same general views on the negative aspect of social media. My first source is the only one that actually listed not only the negative side but also the positive side. However, the other sources seemed to all have the same understanding that social media does have some positive impacts as well. The different sources help me grasp a better idea on how exactly social media is viewed by others. The actual research and statistics in each article proved what I already thought the answer to my question was. The only revisement I may make to my research question is making it more specific to one piece of evidence, instead of such a broad question.
