I am really interested in this topic because underage drinking is a huge problem in the US. It is a very arguable topic because it is an opinion based topic with statistics. In the past the drinking age used to be 18 but the age was slowly raised until it was 21. Prohibition was also a thing with drinking. The government tried to stop the consumption or possession of alcohol but the opposite happened. The same thing is basically happening today. The government is trying to stop people under the age of 21 from drinking but it does not totally work. In my opinion the drinking age should be lowered. Many people under the age of 21 drink. Also when your 18 you can basically do everything except for drink. I am qualified to write about this because I am 19 and I go to college where a whole lot of underage drinking goes on right under people's noses but nobody tries to acknowledge it. Also there are a lot of articles on the drinking age written by many smart people.

The main claim in this article is that underage drinking is a problem and it could be fixed if the age was lower. The author uses statistics about underage drinking to prove his point. He says that a higher percentage of drinkers underage binge drink verses people who are of the age have a lower percentage of people who binge drink. The author also explains how lowering the age would help. He says that if the drinking age was lower people would more likely start drinking with adult supervision. This in turn would most likely support a foundation of responsible drinking. This is only true given that the adult is a responsible drinker. He also compares the drinking age of the US to other countries and the problems other countries do or do not have with young adults drinking. The author is a professor at a college which means he is smart but not necessarily an expert on the topic. Although the title of the article explains that it is an opinion, this topic is and opinion based topic. The statistics used in the article however are true which means the article can be trusted.

The main claim in this article is the question of should the US lower the drinking age. In this article as opposed to picking a side on lowering the drinking age or not it just informs one on the pros and cons. In the beginning it talks other people's opinion on the pros of lowering the drinking age. One person explained that if the age was lowered to around 6 or 8 the kids would grow up drinking with their parents which would make them less likely to go off a binge drink while they get older. It then goes on to when the government lowered the drinking age to 18. It explains how when the drinking was 18 the amount of young people killed in car wrecks increased. It also gives the CNN opinion that it should be lowered to 19 and that colleges should educate freshman students on drinking. The author is a CNN author and although you might think this is bias it's not because the statistics are not fake. I would say that he is using factual statistics to inform readers but this article is by a media group so there is a possibility of some bias.

The main claim in this article is whether or not the drinking age should be lowered. It talks about how when the drinking age was lowered the number of driving deaths increased and that when they brought it up the number of car related deaths decreased. This article also challenges that by saying one of the reasons the number of deaths went down when the age was increased to 21 was not because of less drinking and driving but because of the invention of the air bag. In this article they also talk about actual college students opinions on drinking. The surveys showed that college students will drink no matter what the law says. They also say that if age was lowered and people could be introduced to alcohol at a younger age that would be better than being introduced to alcohol at a college party. The author of this article is and ABC news writer who has statistics and interviewed people to get their opinions on the topic. This suggest that the article has a little bias but it is still truthful.

My research question is arguable because it is opinion based. There are facts on drinking and how it could help but also how it could make things worse. Some disagreement on the sources I found are the number of deaths saved by increasing the drinking age. Some sources say that it was actually caused by the development of the airbag, therefore less people died in DUI's. Most sources agree though that if drinking could be supervised at a young age that could possibly set a good foundation of responsible drinking into younger people. These sources affect my perspective by backing it up. For the most part all of these sources agree with my exact thoughts. I like the way my RQ is worded because it specifies that I am arguing on the lowering of the drinking age in the United States.
