I am interested in this topic because it is a very controversial topic in today's time. A lot of light should be shed on this topic since many people are trying to take away a woman's ability to choose whether or not she wants a child. A child is a huge responsibility which not many women are fit to handle. Bringing a child into the world from an unfit mother will not only make the mother's life miserable but also the child's. The child could also be a child that was born from rape, which could physiologically damage the mother if she had to have it. Many pro-life activists argue that the child could be put up for adoption but millions of kids are left in orphanages around the world without a simple chance at life. Some of those kids are also tortured, malnutrition, and suffer physiological trauma in orphanages. A life full of pain and suffering is something that no child should deserve.

Abortion is very controversial because it involves people's beliefs and values. For example, most pro-life activists are Christian. They believe that abortion is a sin. I personally am not a fan of abortion but I do think that a female should have the option to abort. We as a society do not know the situation that a female is in that might lead her to abort; therefore we should not make that decision for her. My qualification to write this is that I am a female living in a society that is trying to prevent me from a simple right. If I were ever in a situation where my pregnancy was unplanned (ex: rape), I would like to have the option to abort whether or not I chose that option. My pregnancy will drastically impact my life more than anyone else's life so I believe that I should have a say.

Abortion is the conclusion of a pregnancy through the removal of the fetus from the womb, which directly results in its death ("Abortion", 1). The U.S. Supreme Court declared abortion a fundamental right in 1973. The court case Roe v. Wade lead to this decision. Due to practical, moral, medical, and religious beliefs, abortion is still debated. There are two sides to this debate: pro-life and pro-choice.

People who are pro-choice believe that abortion is a woman's right that should not be limited by governmental or religious authority ("Top 10", 4). Since Roe v. Wade, an average of 1.4 million abortions were performed a year. People that are pro-choice say that pregnant women who want to terminate a pregnancy will result to unsafe, illegal abortions if there is no legal option ("Top 10", 3). Illegal abortions can also result in the mother's death.

People who are pro-life defend the rights of the unborn ("Why", 3). They believe that abortion is the immoral killing of an innocent human being ("Why", 4). Pro-life activists say that abortion inflicts pain on the unborn child. They also think that abortion is unfair to those couples that cannot biologically conceive and are waiting to adopt.

This research question is arguable because there are two different sides to the argument: pro-life and pro-choice. Two of my sources show both sides to the argument and state facts. The different perspectives do not influence my own. To me, the arguments proposed by pro-life activists are not substantial. They are all based on personal beliefs and religious views, which should not be taken seriously in court. I stand by my belief that abortion should remain legal.
