I settled for this topic because of I'm interested in how multiple industries have thrived thanks to advancements made by the use of the internet. I researched three of the biggest industries in the modern world; the music industry, the television/movie industry, and small businesses as a whole. The research I found on these industries was very eye-opening in the rate of growth these industries have experienced starting with the integration of the internet. I was somewhat interested about the topic when I first thought of it but now that I've seen the results and now understand how big a role the internet is actually playing, I feel extremely compelled to continue to research this topic. I now understand how these industries use the internet for communication, building a strong, positive consumer base, and how advertising has become such an easy process.

In a way I am a stakeholder to this situation. I am a fan of the music industry and am constantly buying merchandise and eagerly anticipate the announcement of concerts/tours of my favorite bands/artists. Also, I am a huge fan of television and movies and now thanks to the internet I get to give my feedback and can read other opinions on movies and shows, giving me insight on the way others thought of said movies and shows. Finally, I am in support of small (local) businesses and love to see them grow. Before the internet was implemented into the day-to-day, these business were only able to advertise very locally with things such as billboards, bus signs, and just the random posters skewed about the local area. Now with the internet, advertising is so much easier. These small business can post advertisements on any page, they can send weekly or monthly emails to their customers, and on top of all that, getting approval for these forms of advertising is easier than ever considering all it takes for approval is a couple clicks on a computer.

I started researching this topic because I knew the internet had a great impact on the industrial world but I had no clue how big that impact actually was. After researching the topic I was astounded as to how the internet actually is used in industries. Most of the business don eby the music, television/movie, and small business industries is actually all online. Many companies have switched to paperless which is good for the environment but wouldn't be able to work without the internet. Communicating is the same way. No one uses faxes or actual letters anymore, they use emails, instant messaging, and forums as a means of interaction. I could have avoided bias by also researching how the internet has been ineffective in industries, essentially showing the good and the bad side of the uses of the internet and in return making my research more neutral than biased. I actually still don't know a lot about this topic. When I was researching small businesses I read an article that was mainly based on decision matrixes and after reading it I was still extremely confused. I feel the need to keep researching and to try and find out the results of what would happen if even just a one hundredth of the decimal is off, as in would the entire system crash or would it just be a little loss in profits.

I hoped to inform people how the internet has been such a beneficial factor in the advancements of the music, television/movie, and small business industries. I tried to include many details in my research and try to get more in-depth rather than just saying something very broad such as "the internet helped industries grow". I think I can effectively address my answer in an 8-10 page paper because I feel so interested in the topic at hand. I know I could dig up more facts and results from the use of the internet if I continued my research. I agree with the topic in the sources I have found, most of the articles I used and researched were on valid websites meaning that all of the information was factual and very low on biased. On occasion I did have to use articles with bias in them in order to understand people's happiness from the use of the internet, mainly in comment sections or when giving feedback on a certain show or band. Some aspects I found I didn't necessarily agree with however. Such as that the internet is the greatest thing to ever happen to some of the industries. I agree that the internet is an amazing tool to use in music, television/movies, and small business but I don't think it is the single-handily the best thing to ever happen to the industries for the fact that the internet is completely unreliable at times and that one has to first have a connection to the internet in order to use it. If I were to revise my research question I could do so in this way: "How has the internet played a role in modern industries?" This question imposes that the internet could have been both positive and negative in the role in the budding of industries rather than just a beneficial one. Also, the title opens up a lot more topics for research since the paper can now feature negatives along with positives. Everything can have a negative impact and researching it would be extremely easy and beneficial for a paper based on the whole outlook of the internet and how it affects modern business rather than just all of the positives. This kind of paper would also be very little bias since it would be showing the good and bad sides. Overall, I feel as though an 8-10 page paper would be easy to do considering all of the research that I haven't done yet, there is limitless information about this topic.
