When I initially began this research project I was interested in looking at how the fitness industry is corrupt. I wanted to look deeper into this idea because fitness is a huge passion of mine and I think that people need to know the truth about what is happening in the fitness industry, most importantly what's true and what's not. However, as I began to look into this topic I found it hard to find reliable information that could be used to create a solid argument. Through my research however, I began to notice a trend that was the underlying issue in why the fitness industry is corrupt. This trend, lies in a growing character trait known as instant gratification. Although this isn't what I initially planned to write about I think I can implement examples from the fitness realm to help support my argument, which will both keep me interested in the topic and give me a lot more information to write about. Also, this topic will allow me to use different examples and connect my argument with everyone who reads it rather than just those people who care about how or why the fitness industry has become what we know it to be today.

Although the concept of instant gratification wasn't my original interest, this topic's relatability has led to further curiosity among may different aspects of my life. The universality of this trait is what makes it so important because it can be seen anywhere you go and is doing nothing but increasing its impact in everyone's life. As bad as I would like to say that I don't possess some of this trait myself, unfortunately I do. We all have a need to have our cravings satisfied instantly, because that is how our society has evolved. Whether it is googling something on your phone when you don't know the answer, or using expedited shipping when you order something online, we just want what we want as soon as possible. And if we can why wouldn't we? Why wait longer than we have to? These questions are very important in looking at the importance and severity of instant gratification in our lives. The main culprit for this expansion is constant technological advancement.

Thus far in my research, I have seen many areas that are already trying to make tasks happen even faster than before to satisfy our needs. One article that I read brought up and example of internet speed in regards to how fast it was just a few years ago versus how fast it is now. I remember in middle school, before smart phones and laptops were popular, I would use a desktop computer in my dad's office. From turning the computer on to loading a web page, it always took time. However, this time was all I knew so I could accept its slowness in all its technological glory. Fast forward to about two years ago when I had my first encounter with that computer in years; I was waiting for it to turn on and just about walked away after a minute because I was so accustomed to the fast paced technology I had access too. This experience is one reason why I have interest in this topic and I think many other people will share this interest because of their ability to relate to it as well.

Besides this personal example, I have stumbled upon many other examples such as Verizon's internet speed, Amazon's delivery systems, and special diets. One thing that all of these examples have in common, is that they all are directed towards satisfying the consumers need for instant gratification. In addition to these examples, I plan to continue researching this topic to find more products or services that show how retailers are striving to satisfy everyone's need for instant gratification and build the strongest argument I can.

Personally I find it very boring and almost painful to write long papers about topics that don't matter to me. Because of this, I plan on writing an argument that is both interesting to my readers and I, but also have some impact on each of their lives as well as my own. I want to show how omnipresent this idea of instant gratification truly is in our society, by showing examples that affect everyone on a daily basis. By connecting my topic with my reader's personal experiences, I will be able to create a much stronger argument because it has a purpose. I'm not writing about an irrelevant topic that no one will understand, and because of its relatability, I think my argument will be both interesting to write about and interesting for my readers to digest and apply to their own lives.

Relatability in an argument is crucial, because without it the reader will have no interest in what you are arguing for or against. In saying this, I think moving away from a strictly fitness related argument opens up a lot of doors for my argument to enter, and will allow me to write an 8-10-page paper. Instead of focusing solely on the corruption of the fitness industry, I can use that idea along with many other examples to create one longer and stronger argument with support from many different areas of society.

Ultimately, I am excited to continue researching and strengthen my argument by compiling the thoughts of many different people who have each experienced instant gratification differently. Drawing from many sources and keeping an open mind about people's ideas will help me learn more about the topic and help guide me into creating my argument. Through these ideas and examples, I believe that I can compile a both influential and interesting argument that will both inform and force the reader to reflect on their own personal experiences and hopefully affect how they make decisions in the future. However, I have not clearly joined one side of the argument because I simply don't know enough about the topic to do so. This topic encompasses a very large demographic and because of this affects everyone's life differently. But I am interested in learning more.
