This research question has been a relevant the past few decades because of the increase in technology that has evolved. With this expansion in technology, there has been a decline in children spending adequate time exercising in the outdoors. Another reason why children are spending less time exercising is because their recess is being taken away. Many elementary school children are not receiving a recess break while at school. Especially in the past ten years teachers have been stressing education, which results in teaching their students for nearly seven hours with only a short lunch break in between lessons. It is important for these children to get an adequate recess break because it allows for their brains to rest and it teaches them life lessons that they would not learn in the classroom. Children who do not receive a fair break are very lethargic by the end of the day and have a hard time focusing (Millner). It is important for children to spend time outdoors because it makes them stronger and helps with the prevention of conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and high blood cholesterol levels ("Kids"). I had recess from when I began school at age 3 till I reached high school. Along with that I also played many sports and because of this exercise that I did I am a healthier person. I'm qualified to write about this because it is something that I am passionate about. I like to exercise and hike not only because it helps make me healthier but also because it alleviates stress.

Scientists have proven that it is important to spend time outdoors specifically exercising. A disorder often occurs during the colder months called seasonal affective disorder, which happens when people choose not to spend time outdoors because of the daunting colder temperatures. Another scientifically proven reason why it is important to go outdoors daily is to get a sufficient amount of vitamin D which comes from the sun and can help to prevent serious health disorders. The article focuses on informing the reader about the importance of exercising outside year round even in uncomfortable temperatures. Exercise is a good stress reliever and can help people feel more confident about themselves. Physical activity has become growing problem among children because of the amount of electronics available ("This"). This article is written by the American Running Association for their magazine Running and FitNews. It is a credible article because it was found on one of the databases through the Thomas Cooper Library. The writers of the article are bias because they work for an organization that promotes health through exercise. While they are bias, all of the information provided in the article is factual and informative.

The author of this article is an outraged mother who sees the affects on her daughter from not having a recess daily. By not having recess the girl is negatively affected making her more tired and irritable. Recess is important for young children because it teaches them behavior lessons that they would not learn inside of the classroom. The author feels that while education is important, exercise is just as important for young, growing children. Without recess the children become lackadaisical and begin to have a harder time comprehending their school work. It has also been proven that children who receive recess daily at school behave better because they learn life lessons during these breaks and because recess provides them with a time where their brains can rest (Millner). The author of the article, from the Parenting School Years magazine, is Denene Millner. This article is a credible source because it is from an award winning magazine that can found from one of the library database. The source is biased because the author sees the negative affects of the absence of outdoor activity right in front of her eyes. But while being biased she does use credible information to explain her reasoning behind her argument.

The third articles main focus is on the benefits of children exercising regularly. It goes into depth of three benefits of exercising, which include endurance, strength, and flexibility. Because of the increase in technological gadgets being produced, children are spending more time indoors than ever before. Along with poor food consumption, technology is another prominent reason as to why childhood obesity is a problem in America. This article focuses on the benefits of physical activity in children. When children play on the playground three components are shown: endurance, strength, and flexibility. Recently childhood obesity has been a serious problem in America and this has partly to do with the amount of time that children spend inactive playing with electronics ("Kids"). The article explains how many hours a day parents should have their children exercising in order to stay healthy and active. This article is a credible source because it is written by an expert in exercise for children because it was written for the KidsHealth organization. The source is bias toward the importance of exercise because this organization promotes health and exercise is a key component in children staying healthy.

This research question can be arguable because children exercising in very hot or very cold environments can be harmful. Playing outside in weather that is above 100 degrees farenheight can cause children to get exhausted and possibly faint if not drinking the appropriate amount of water. A disagreement that people have with this argument is that parents might disagree that recess is an important part of their child's day because they believe that their children are at school to learn and would like them to be doing that for as long as possible. While it is important to spend time learning, it has been proven that children who have recess retain the information they learn in class better. Thus making them more balanced individuals physical y and mentally. The research question could be revised by changing it to pertain more toward children spending too much time on electronics or whether recess is an important part of a child's day.
