A significant factor among individuals in today's society is gay marriage. This idea leads to the concept of homosexuals having the right to marry in society. However, the opposing argument 'against' gay marriage can emerge that gay marriage will destroy the concept of marriage and the idea/concept of procreation. Although gay marriage has been legalized many people believe that the gay marriage act should be revoked. In reference to the position supporting gay marriage, the discussion will focus on; equality, discrimination and respect on individuals rights.

Individuals who are against gay marriage in today's society will come up with many reasons to why gay marriage should be illegal. As part of the 'against' position and argument can be made that children need both a mother and a father. However this is not always correct because it is not always that a child would need a mother and a father. In society, a child can be raised by two fathers or two mothers. Children in a homosexual family will be raised the same way as children in a heterosexual family; as long as the right amount of love and support are provided. It is noticeable that there are many issues affecting gay parenting, however, there is no ground evidence that children are affected by having same sex parents. In an article by Cindy Coan, she states, "there is an estimated ten million children living with gay, lesbian, or bisexual parents or couples" (Coan). Looking at this quote the reader can see that is it however not unnormal for children to be living/having homosexual parents.

Secondly, individuals of the heterosexual community try and argue that gay marriage is going against the bible and religions around the world. They believe that same-sex marriage violates the natural moral order and offends God. The evidence used to prove that same-sex marriage violates natural law is Genesis 1:28-29 which states, "God created man in His image; in the Divine image he created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them, saying: 'Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it" (SITE). Looking at this quote from the Bible, christians believe that anyone apart of the homosexual community is offending God, however these same christians believe that God made everyone equal and loves everyone the same way. So why is it that individuals of the LGBTQ community are not accepted by a lot of christians and other religions around the world?

Although gay marriage was legalized in 2015 the LGBTQ community is still fighting for equality around the world. One major place the LGBTQ community is looking for quality is in the work force. This issue of discrimination has " ... come to the forefront due to the recent passing of the act that legalized gay marriage" (Coan). This quote shows that since gay marriage has now become legalized, discrimination has become yet another prevalent issue. It helps show that it is in an issue to this day and is not going away any time soon. In the article by Cindy Coan it discusses how discrimination is used in the workforce. It also discusses how "gay discrimination is not just a professional issue, but still remains a political issue" (Coan). Discrimination against the LGBTQ community in the workplace is a prevalent issue and is detrimental to its community. Not only does an LGBTQ member experience lower wages, they also are less likely to get the job when they have to run up against other applicants that are not apart of the LGBTQ community. According to the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) which is an agency that enforces federal laws for workers, has found that the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act 1964 to include the LGBTQ individuals under its protection. This finding stemmed from an air traffic control specialist not being promoted due to his sexual orientation as being labeled as a gay man (Calfas). According to the Center for American Progress, ten percent to 28 percent of the LGBTQ community receive a negative performance evaluation or were passed over for a promotion because they were gay or part of the LGBTQ community. Along with that it is proven that eight percent to 17 percent of gay and transgender workers report being passed over for a job or fired because of their sexual orientation or gender identity (Burns). This shows/proves how bad discrimination against the LGBTQ community truly is. One example where discrimination is prevalent is seen in Susan Milligans article. Milligan ran a test where she sent four men into an interview. Two of them being part of the LGBTQ community, with all of them graduating from UGA. However, the two homosexuals had better resumes than the other two men. Although the homosexuals had better resumes they were still denied the job due to their sexual orientation. The main point from this test/experiment is to show professional discrimination is still prevalent and employers do choose those that are not apart of the LGBTQ community. Many states have started signing an anti-discrimination law which bans all discrimination against the LGBTQ community in the workplace. This law is actually still pending in South Carolina. One of the advocates for this law is Crystal Moore. She was a police chief who was fired due to her sexual orientation, however was able to return after being rallied for. She used this experience to testify in front of the South Carolina House of Judicial Constitutional Laws Subcommittee about legislation that would ban discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation in the state. However, this law is still pending (Calfas). In an article by Robert Jackson he states, " LGBTQ discrimination should be illegal because either gay or straight everyone has something to offer to the professional community" (Jackson). This statement is beyond 100% true because members of the LGBTQ community work just as hard as those that are not apart of the community. The main point that was brought to the reader's attention in this article is that fact that discrimination of the LGBTQ community is seen in the workplace and many other places. This issue of discrimination has " ... come to the forefront due to the recent passing of the act that legalized gay marriage" (Coan). This article discusses how discrimination is used in the workforce and even explains a study they ran to help prove that discrimination against this community is still prevalent. It also discusses how "gay discrimination is not just a professional issue, but still remains a political issue" (Coan). Although an act that legalizes gay marriage has been passed, discrimination against the LGBTQ community is still an issue in politics due to the beliefs of the upcoming presidents and officials. The last main point that this article makes, one that I find to be the most important, is that "LGBTQ discrimination should be illegal because either gay or straight everyone has something to offer to the professional community" (Coan). This is the most important quote out of the whole article because it is very true. The LGBTQ is just regular humans who have different sexualities and can offer just as much or more to the professional community as a straight person can. Overall, it is evident that gay marriage can be an immense controversial topic throughout society. On one hand gay marriage should be accepted by everyone due to equal rights and discrimination should be illegal no matter where it is. On the other hand people believe it should not be accepted due to the effects on their kids and their upbring and because of their religious beliefs.
