There are many problems concerning the thought of gun control and the rights and views of others. While some people advocate for total gun control and others argue the exact opposite, there needs to a balance, an equilibrium in society. Many people ask why guns are not banned, while others ask why ban guns. Laws need to be implemented so that firearms are impossible for criminals and the mentally handicapped to obtain so that citizens can live in a safe and secure environment. Law abiding citizens should not be oppressed and should still be able to use their second amendment rights. The constitution grants citizens to be able to purchase and own firearms and this should not be changed.

This topic is an interesting topic in today's world and needs to be addressed immediately. Gun control is one of the most discussed and stressed topics in modern times. The solution is between the extremes of total gun control and zero gun control. Many people have the misconception that President Obama is the first President in United States history to advocate for gun control when in reality he is the 8th President to impose more strict laws regarding guns. There has been a pattern throughout United States history that after significant events involving gun related violence, there has been laws imposed that make guns harder to purchase. This is just another bump in the timeline of the history of America and it needs to be addressed. This subject affects a vast majority of Americans including myself. I personally own several guns some of which are for hunting and some of which have no purpose such as my AR-15. Although it has no practical purpose, it is strictly a sporting purpose and it is my right to own it. This topic affects me personally because I do own an "assault rifle" but that does not mean my argument is biased. Changed needs to take place that ensures the freedom and safety of future generations of American citizens. John Lott wrote an article on how more guns in society reduces the number of crimes and criminals. "Understanding crime and gun control laws", this article offers solid evidence and facts supported by research as to why more guns leads to less crime. There is numerous accounts of evidence that indisputably support the arming of America's citizens. The fact of the matter is that taking away the second amendment will not reduce the number of violent crimes committed with firearms, it will simply put law abiding citizens at a higher risk because no matter what laws are in place, criminals will always have access to firearms.

In the video, "the best 7 mins of gun control I have ever seen", the speaker articulates his argument so that it appeals to a vast majority of America. He argues that taking away guns from every day citizens does not solve the problem of gun violence, it will only make it worse. Taking away guns from law abiding citizens will not only leave them defenseless, but it will also make it easier for criminals to take advantage of people. There are two types of people in this world, predators and prey .Everyone agrees that when a gazelle is being chased by a hungry lion, the gazelle can duck, dodge, and hide to get away from the lion. That gazelle has every right to defend its self from that predator so why are humans any different. Taking away guns from every day, law abiding citizens is like the same concept as denying the gazelle the right to hide and run away from the hungry lion. Taking away guns is not the key to solving gun violence in America, it is banning murder and insanity, not guns.

Gun control must be viewed as a new development and an evolution into the modern world. "Gun control in America: how we got here", is a news article that summarizes Americas past and breaks down the history of guns in America. As times change so do ethics and morals and the laws surrounding a country need to evolve and be modernized. The laws on guns in present day America have a few moral concerns that should be resolved so that there is one less thing to worry about. Studies show that gun control does not necessarily mean that gun violence goes down. Many countries have adopted a zero tolerance policy for guns such as Australia and Mexico. "Mexico has some of the strictest gun control laws in the world and yet, in 2012, Mexico had 11,309 gun murders (9.97 gun homicides per 100,000 people) compared to the United States that had 9,146 gun homicides (2.97 per 100,000 people)." (gun-control.procon.org). This statistic shows how gun control does not have a correlation as most people think. Just because a country imposes very strict gun laws, it does not mean that gun related crimes will go down. There is both success and failure with these antigun laws.

In April of 1996, there was a major mass shooting that left 35 killed in Port Arthur in Australia. Remarkably the Prime Minister announced a new program in Australia. The program consisted of a buy back that bought back 600,000 guns from Australian citizens. This new bill received upwards of a 90% by public support. The program also prohibited the private salves of firearms, required gun buyers to present a valid reason for the purchase, and required that each weapon be individually registered to its owner. This was a very successful example of an anti-gun law and is reasonable for today's society. The modern day world needs to be more sophisticated and feasible for today's morals and ethics. President Obama gave a speech recently following the latest mass shooting in America, during this speech he grew very emotional as gun violence is a sore subject in modern day America. "Emotional Obama calls for a 'sense of urgency' to fight gun violence", throughout this news article, President Obama is explaining very clearly his stand on gun control. He explains that he believes "I believe in the Second Amendment, there written on paper, that guarantees the right to bear arms," Obama said. "No matter how many times people try to twist my words around, I taught constitutional law. I know a little bit about this. But I also believe that we can find ways to reduce gun violence consistent with the Second Amendment" This quote shows that President Obama not only supports the constitution, but that he also believes there needs to be a change to make it harder for criminals to get their hands on guns. Soon After this speech, President Obama addressed the nation on live television. During his presidential address, he stated that he would now be enforcing a law that has already been in place for years. This law requires gun buyers to have a background check on them before they are allowed to purchase a gun. A gun shows and privately conducted sales, no background checks are implemented. This is a huge loophole in our society and needed to be addressed immediately.

Jimmy D. Taylor offers great insight into the culture of American guns and why things are the way they are. These unbiased reports from his article, American gun culture: Collectors, Shows, and the story of the gun, give great detailed account of how guns got so deeply embedded in the culture of America. This question is arguable and feasible for today's world because it involves a vast majority of the American population. Up wards of 31% of Americans own guns as of 2014, which means the rest of the population is either pro-gun control or indifferent or uneducated about the topic. This question must be answered to ensure that the American population both gun owners and non-gun owners are satisfied. My argument could be revised to state exactly how to go about making these changes and what the potential side effects could be dealt with. Change is necessary with evolution, they go hand in hand with one another which is why the history of America has shown that as the country evolves, so does the laws against guns. It is time for another change that would help the development and sophistication of a new America.

Many people argue that guns are to source of all crime and gun violence in America, which is not true at all. Although guns are used by criminals to commit crimes, criminals are less likely to commit a crime if they are aware that there will be armed citizens around. Predators will always prey on the weak, especially if they are unable to protect themselves. States where concealed carry is highly restricted had a 10% higher homicide rate compared to other states who were more lenient of concealed carry. Also, once Florida passed its concealed carry law, their crime rates fell from 36% above national homicide rate to 4% below the national average (concealed carry, Web). It is a proven fact that more guns in the hands of level headed, law abiding citizens, reduce the crime rate significantly. Douglas Murray wrote an article on supporting the banning of guns in America. Although his source is extremely biased in that it only takes into account one point of view, he shows the other side of the gun control debate. He argues that there are a number of variables that contribute to crime including poverty, lack of education, socioeconomic status, high density, overcrowding, large number of minorities, and substandard housing. This article was written in the early 1970's when racism was still predominant in America's society, but these claims still hold true to this day. (Murray, Handguns, Gun Control laws and Firearm violence)

People around the world are confused as to why Americas laws regarding the 2nd amendment are the way they are. Many see the United States as having questionable control over the buying, selling, and owning of guns. They do not understand the concept of owning guns, because they did not grow up in American culture. These foreigners can offer us great insight into what the United States should undertake in the near future. Throughout a vice video, people are constantly bringing up the fact that a vast majority of the mass shootings that are conducted are by mentally unstable people and I believe this needs to be addressed immediately. There should be a system in place that before you can purchase a gun, you must go undergo severe physiological evaluation. Once this evaluation has been conducted, it remains good for 4-5 years before a new evaluation must be conducted. This would prevent mentally unstable people from obtaining guns and potentially do harm to the community. These precautions will help ensure the safety of the community while still allowing law abiding citizens to own guns.

There are many people that would argue against what I am advocating for but I respond by simply showing the statistics of previous gun control reforms and explaining the history of gun control in America. I have also heard the argument that Australia has completely banned guns and they have unanimous support from its citizens and crime rates have went down but, on the other hand there have also been many failures including Nazi Germany, and Soviet Russia. Also the 2nd Amendment is in place to protect the general public from the government. This is what the United States was founded on and it should remain the same way. Taking away the second amendment is going against what everything America was built on and I believe that there is a way around that option that satisfies both parties. There is a solution to the problem of gun control in America, we have just not found the perfect one just yet. Wisdom comes with age, being that the United States not very old compared to other countries around the world, we have a strong backbone and will find a solution that satisfies both parties.
