The topic of gun control seems intriguing to me because so many people own guns today, but not all of those people are capable of being in possession of a gun. Some gun owners are unaware of how to control a gun, while others should not own guns because of mental issues. Multiple people today die from gun accidents. Also, numerous people commit suicide or kill people because of mental problems they have. I think that all life is valuable but my family and friends are the most valuable to me. If I were to lose a family member or a friend from a shooting that would be heart breaking, especially if it were by someone who was not capable of owning a gun. Even when someone in the community dies from a shooting, it still hurts because all life is valuable. For example, my uncle had been shot a couple of years ago and of course our family mourned together but we also witnessed the whole community support our family during this hard time. I feel that gun control is an issue that everyone should have their own opinion on, and this is a very hot topic with the presidential election coming up.

An article by Michael Rabovsky, MD, addresses gun safety from a mental health perspective. He suggest that if he has a patient that is mentally ill that a family member removes the gun from their area. He goes on to speak about how high the suicide rate is from gun use and the number of accidental shooting from children. The biggest asset at stake are the lives of the people. Dr. Rabovsky speaks on how important it is to be a responsible gun owner and educated on gun safety in order to prevent accidental deaths. The author has a creditability because he speaks about from a mental health perspective. Dr. Rabovsky attended the University of Maryland School of medicine and has worked in the field for many years. He is not biased in his article about gun control he just gives suggestions to people.

The article by Tauriq Moosa presents arguments from both sides of the debate of gun control. His two angles are that guns undermine liberty, guns poison power, and guns can protect in a violent world. The article is unique because he gives evidence from both points of view. Freedom to own a gun is one value that caught my eye. Also when he speaks of guns poisoning power he says it promotes individualism rather living in a community. Lastly gives examples of guns from a protection stand point. It is tough to say how creditable this author is but he gives great examples and also quotes creditable sources. He is not biased because he addresses both sides evenly. Moosa is unclear of where he stands because he can understand the views from each side. Moosa also understands the complexity of this issue.

Jim Amrhein claims that more gun will lead to less crime. He speaks of gun control from a protective point of view. He believes that we need guns to protect and defend our families. Amrhein thinks that the second amendment is not fair or creditable to today's society. He believes that the second amendment is out dated and causing our society more problems rather than helping. Some of the major values that he addresses are being able to protect ourselves and our family. Another value is basically just our rights as Americans to own guns and feel safe in our communities. Amrhein is a very biased author, he only gives facts and statistics from his of view. His points are creditable, they come from the National Rifle Association (NRA). His overall goal is to have a reduction in violent crimes.

This research question is arguable because there are numerous people that believe guns will help the crime rate go down. One major disagreement that have is that guns will not lower the crime rate. People do not feel safe around guns, and if a ton of people have them then I feel that there will be more shootings. Also the suicide rate will go up because it will be easier for people with depression access guns. I can understand that guns can protect you, but I feel like guns have more of a negative affect then a positive. Right now my topic is very broad with all the information I have read about peoples perspectives I feel that I can narrow my topic down.
