Obesity in America is growing problem that we as a country can't seem to get a handle on. With the obesity rates rising, I can't help but notice more obese adults and children as I walk around. I am primarily interested in this topic because I want to figure out why it's so difficult for Americans to live a healthy lifestyle despite them knowing all of the health risks. This research question doesn't really have an effect on my values because for the most part I usually try to put good things into my body. I have two parts to the research question mainly because I want to address all of the things we do and don't do that could cause obesity in America. I want to observe and compare what other countries do to figure out why their obesity rate is lower than ours. What I mainly want to come to the conclusion about is what exactly we can do to fix this problem. I know that you can't change everybody's life but I also believe that writing this paper could motivate my audience to consider these options. I don't have a good reason on what exactly makes me qualified to write about this topic other than I would provide the proper sources and information that will help conclude the best solution to decrease obesity in America.

The first article is called "This is Why American are overweight." written by Yoni Heisler. In this article, the author talks about obesity in America and how it's a growing problem. He addresses the fact that the U.S has the highest rate of obesity compared to other countries around the world. He focuses on the America's lunches and their portion compared to other countries. The writer interest that is stake is the claim that how and what we eat are the main reason why our obesity rate is higher compared to other countries. He uses the example what we are feeding children for school lunches versus the other countries to show his audience the reasons why our rate is higher than other countries . The author of this article doesn't necessarily seem as credible considering the fact he's an apple (as in the product) enthusiast. However; Heisler supports his claims with graphs showing the obesity rates of various countries around the world and also photo comparisons of New York school lunches versus other countries. His research supports his claims which in result builds his credibility.

The second article is "Obesity in America: It's Getting Worse" written by Jennifer B. Marks. In this article, the author talks about all the reasons why Americans tend to be obese. The author presents various factors on why we become obese. One of the factors Marks presents is our portion sizes and how they have significantly been getting larger. She mentions how Americans continue to live a less active lifestyle which is a reason why people obesity is so prevalent in America. She also talks about how it is more difficult lower income families to eat healthier food because of its poorly stocked grocery stores. She believes that the plan for successful weight loss is from these three key things "motivation, physical activity, and caloric restrictions". Marks interest that are stake is that American need to address this obesity epidemic with a more realistic approach. She wants the audience to believe that the main reasons why our obesity rate is high because of our lifestyles. Jenifer Marks is a Professor of Medicine at the University Of Miami Miller School Of Medicine, and Section Chief, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, and Medical Director of the Miami VA Medical Center. Considering the field work she is she would definitely be a credible writer about this topic.

The last source is called "Fast Food Is Harmful to People and the Planet" by Tamara Thompson. In this argumentative essay, Thompsons talks about how fast food has strong effects on our society in many different aspects. From the workers, lower income families and our environment. Also her biggest claim is that fast food corporations don't care about anyone or anything other than the profits that they make from their food. Marks beliefs that are at stake is that the fast food industry isn't any good for society. She is against fast food as a whole. She sees the fast food corporation as a true cause of obesity as a higher rate of obesity shows and the fast food corporations profit skyrocket. This author is a part of the Food Empowerment Project and that shows that she has done research on fast food and its effect on Americans.

I feel that my research question is arguable because obesity in America is such big problem and we seem to not get a true handle on it. There are many different points of views on what on what we should fix this situation and I found that that my sources seems to agree that our main problem is our eating habit. They seem to focus on our portions and the types of food we choose to eat. I also think some of my sources seems to make off the wall assumptions about obesity in lower income families. Some the writers' assumptions about the lower income families and their factors to obesity may be a little off. I'm considering revising my research question to focus more on the lower income families and what we can do to help improve the obesity in that area.
