When reading Black Power, I saw plenty of points that made a lot of since. Yet after reading two articles that I’m able to see why the story was written in the first place. “Black Power” gave good arguments but since most readers aren’t from this era that they didn’t really know if they were true. That’s why if you look into other articles around the time period that your able to clearly understand. Both articles gave great insight on to what Carmichael speaks about and gives the reader a true understanding on why he feels the way he does.

In the article, The Civil Rights Movement and the Right to Vote: Black Protest, Segregationist Violence and the Audience, Santoro talks about about the what’s all going on during all the protest over right for blacks to vote. In his article in goes on about killings due to segregationist all over black protest and the right to vote. Santoro starts off by talking about how the killings are tied into the protest that are going on. Then goes on to say how even though there is a law saying any man can vote, that the states place ways to stop anyone they see fit not to allow. He later goes on to talk about that with every black protest that there tended to be southern whites outraged with the outcome. In that same paragraph Santoro talks about how sympathy is starting to affect everyone and change how they feel and look at what’s happening. In a later chapter, Santoro talks about that most non southern whites wouldn’t really care to what civil right matters are going on. He then goes on to say that the countries sympathy towards black lives slowly became more abundant over the years as time went on. As you read more, you then see that he talks about how the American people started to actually do something about what they now saw was wrong. After that, he gives you on the percentages of data he has dug up. When he gets towards the end of the article, he talks about the results of the protest and everything that followed.

Another great article is, “Black Liberation and the Foundations of Social Control”, wrote by Gavin Marshall, and Andrew. The story is mainly about, raising money for the black power and civil rights movements in the United States, big businesses wanting the goals of social engineering and ways to establish social control. That businesses work for the interests of most corporates that dominated boards and founders, advertising reforms to secure a long-term, systemic interest. Marshall first talks about how the big organizations like Rockefeller foundation, support the civil rights movements. The article goes on to talk about how the Rockefeller Foundation supported the founding of black education systems in the United States. Yet soon after, talking about how some businesses would give the more labor driven jobs to the blacks and the leadership jobs to the white working class. The article also talks that businesses were worried that if African Americans got a better education that they would soon ask for more freedoms. Marshall then goes on to say the Du Bois, a strong promoter in black education, kept seeking funds from these big organization, only to be turned down by most. Finally, Du Bois was able to get help from the group Phelps-Stokes Fund only to be not invited to the first conference. The article flips gear after this though, talking about ford foundation and how it followed the footsteps of other big organization. The Ford Foundation in the 1950s started to worry about civil rights in America, but only what they saw was needed to be fix however.

In the speech that Carmichael gave, he goes on to say everything that is wrong with this country. This may be based off of all that we saw in Santoro article that he gave. Carmichael then goes on to complain that we have gone nowhere since the law was passed for blacks to vote. Knowing now that there were plenty of protest to give blacks better rights, we now see that Carmichael was right to be mad. We see that he is very angry with this country but we also now know the real truth and actually understand why he is so mad in the first place. He also talks about how we should better our country from where it is at the time. Well we see how bad it is looking at was Santoro talks about in his article and we can agree to Carmichael and what he states. Carmichael talks about how you should blame all white people for what has happened in the last century. Looking at the article though, you actually see that he is right to say that white people are to blame. Also talks about the history that has taken place and what it took to get where we are. Well, if you look at that at the article’s stand point, then your able to see that it truly is a big step we made but that there is a lot more to be done in the future. So if you look at both writing side by side, you are now able to see where Carmichael got all his anger from and all that came with it.

From what we get from the article Marshall wrote, we can see something emerge. We see that during the civil rights eras that there were some organizations that tried fixing the problems but yet some would end up making things worse. We can see why Carmichael felt the way he did by looking at what big businesses tried to fix. If we look at what most big organizatons did when it comes to wages for black men in the work force, we see that they were horribly under paid. Carmichael most likely grew up with knowing that most of the time that black Americans were underpaid., which most likely enraged him. Then again, some groups did fund African American education systems, yet most of the time this was very slim. Carmichael most likely wanted more of this to take place in the United States so he probably didn’t like that more money was spent on white schools. Carmichael talks about how he wants change in the United States, he wasn’t the only one, very little groups helped fix the problem at all. Most groups didn’t want to fix the problem since that would mean having to pay their black workers a better wage and better hours. Carmichael saw this growing up and gave him another reason to wanting to change the current conditions. Carmichael clearly had plenty of things to be mad at with the United States with what they stood on the subject of civil rights during this time. After reading the two articles you can see that he honestly had the right to be mad in the first place.
