This picture is one of the art works of artist Pavel Kuczynski. He became famous for his cartoon illustrations about modern life, in which there is plenty of poverty, cruelty, ecological issues and endless wars. Kuczynski was born in Poland in 1976, he graduated from the Fine Arts Academy in Poznan with specialization in graphics. Since 2004 he has been working with satirical illustrations and so far has been awarded by more than 100 prizes and distinctions. Poland, where people march every year protest against the right-wing government's policies and celebrate the cancellation of communism. He produces a lot of political caricatures which reflect actual problems of corruption of authority and dissatisfaction of ordinary people and this picture is not an exception.

First of all, this picture could be separated into the opposition of the right and left sides. The artist used a lot of symbols to show the irony of the event. On the one hand we could see one figure who seems to be a servant, he symbolizes the politicians, who are elected to serve the people. However, politicians today become class of bourgeoisie and there is mass of people who represent the majority of normal working class on the right side. These two sides are divided by the high fence and there is no the end to it, which symbolizes that these two classes are opposed to each other, and the impossibility of the majority crossing the line to reach the level of the bourgeoisie. Many vertical lines in the picture warn us about upcoming revolt. Kuczynski has not accidently chosen the way he painted this cartoon, and the colors of the painting depict the special way he sees and feels about the political situation. Instead of using close focus and precisely drawing angry people, showing their emotions, the artist used the meanings of color to represent the condition people.

By looking at this picture we can clearly see that it was painted with prevailing red color, which symbolizes irritability, physical violence, cruelty and struggling for the civil rights people. Red color depicts critical condition of people ready to fight and protest against injustice, which is also underlined by the word “no” on the held posters. The ground, which the artist painted in the bright orange color, tells us about recurring hypocrisy from the ruling people. Comparing the dress colors of both sides, we can observe huge differences of wellbeing, where the man on the left side is wearing formal clothes of red and black color that might be interpreted as domination, violent suppression and power, however on the right side people wear grey and brown color, what symbolize depression, disappointment and sadness, which eventually caused the insurrection. Also looking at the way the artist has very clearly drawn the main figure on the left side compared with blurred mass of people on the right, he was trying to emphasize the problem and the meaning of the picture. The unusual red sky color, might symbolize the emotional intensity and conflict of subjects in the cartoon, which represent the conflict in the real world. Dominance of dark red color in the picture symbolizes not only the artists negative feelings, but also the discontentment of people on the left side, what is caused by immeasurable wealth inequality of the two sides. That was reflected in all the green color trees located on the left side with the ruling people, what symbolize stability, progress and selfishness in relation to the working class people. If we could eliminate all the subjects of the picture, the ground and color sky of the picture would look like a fire, symbolizing the upcoming war and destruction.

The focal point of the picture allows us to be in the middle line and see the edge between subjects. Two sides are interacting with one another and the figure on the left side has brought the tray which in daily life servants use to bring food to feed people, however instead of food there is gas bottle, which is spreading the gray smoke in the crowd and symbolizes lies and empty promises, which politicians have been using to blind angry people, closing eyes and calming them down. The gas mask on the left person face are symbolizing the unwillingness of left side ruling people to communicate and listen to screaming crowd, they can’t hear them in that mask, however they can see them suffering. The gas mask also protects him from the smoke he is spraying on people, what making it seem like he doesn’t want to accept the smoke and he doesn’t believe in the promises that he gives. Nevertheless, one of the people is located outside of the smoke and could see the reality and the guy in the gas mask, he symbolizes the irony of the picture.

In this picture Kuczynski used satirical elements, which allowed him to criticize and deliver the message about the actual relationship of common individuals and the ruling class of people. He has reflected the reality of event in some countries and compared the wealth contrast of citizens and politicians. Kuczynski is not only specifying the problem of bourgeoisie, but also gives his opinion about the uselessness of screaming and protesting people. This picture is very persuasive because the artist clearly picked the colors and symbols to give the viewer a clear idea and the way he used all the objects to make an analogy with problems and conflict sides, by setting them in the place, what also have the significant meaning in the picture.
