Arnold Palmer was one of the greatest golfers of all time. He won countless tournaments and on top of how good of an athlete he was, he is an even better man. He spread the game throughout the world to grow its popularity. Arnie was one of the greatest ambassadors for golf that ever tried to grow the game. One of the people he reached was Johnny Mack Brown. Johnny Mack loves Arnold Palmer more than any person in the world. He spread this passion to me. Because of Johnny Mack’s passion for the game of golf that he gained from watching Arnold Palmer, he spread to game to someone else who now loves it.

Arnold Palmer was known for his swing in golf. While normally being known for a certain aspect of one’s golf game is a good thing, it was not the same for him. Palmer’s swing was a normal take back that would then go way over the top and it seemed like he would throw his back out. On the follow through he came around like a cork screw. The first picture shows the final position that his swing comes to. The emotion shown on his face during his swing, shows the intensity that he felt while swinging a club. After every shot the man would take, good or bad, he would stare it down until it hit the ground and was safe in the fairway. His eyes would lock with the ball once it took off and they were not going to come off. The fans that loved Arnie also were passionate about the shots that he took. All of the patrons standing in the crowd stare completely with the ball and want the shot to be in the right spot almost as much as Palmer does. Arnie set a great example of what type of golfer to be.

Johnny Mack Brown learned all he knows about the game by watching Arnold Palmer. He even taught him how to play and dress. Johnny Mack wears a much more traditional outfit while he plays golf. A plain white shirt was Palmer’s go to outfit and Brown adopted that. His grandson Cullen, the man on the right, on the other hand wears a much more modern outfit while on the course. The purple shirt that he is wearing really shows that the game of golf is changing. Fifty years ago, no one would be wearing a shirt like that on a course. Now, it is worn by some of the top ranked golfers in the world. The people that watched Palmer and others of his time play adopted his look to their look and so did the people who are more modern golfers.

People adopt the ways they go about doing something by watching someone else do it first. In golf, many times this is because they see a professional on television do it one way. Another way it can be taught is by someone else that one looks up to, like a grandfather. Johnny Mack was a grandfather who told all of his stories to his grandson. Cullen soaked up these stories and stored them in his brain and thought about them on the course. In the picture, the grandfather stares intently at the child while he talks about his day. This is just what Johnny Mack would do for Cullen after a day playing golf. The cartoons look like they really care about what the other is saying and they love each other. The child clearly looks up to the grandpa and wants him to be proud. He tells him stories about his day and what he did because the kid just wants to be around his grandfather. Cullen was the same way with his grandfather. He told him stories about golf and they bonded very well over it. They also really cared and loved each other. Grandpas and their grandsons have special bonds with each other.

Recently, Arnold Palmer passed away and it hit the golf world with a total shock. No one expected one of the most loved men of his sport to pass away. In the picture, Arnie was 87 years old. Everyone can agree that he looks nowhere near his age when he died. He looks young and vibrant and even started to adopt the modern look by wearing an orange shirt to help spread the game of golf to the younger generation. He also passed away in Pennsylvania where he was from. One of the saddest for the death was Johnny Mack. He was Brown’s hero growing up. Arnie had a special place in Johnny Mack’s heart. Since Johnny Mack had a special place in Cullen’s heart, Arnie was there in his heart too. When Cullen found out that his grandpa’s hero died, it was a shock and was saddening. Arnie taught his grandpa all that he knows and his grandpa taught Cullen all that he knows. Palmer wanted to spread the game all the ways that he could and it is one thing that he showed the players who looked up to him to do too. This is what Johnny Mack did which is why he and Cullen felt so sad when the death occurred. Arnie’s death hit the people who cared about the sport and wanted to watch it grow.

Arnold Palmer did a lot more than be a great golfer. He inspired so many young people to get out to the course and become the best golfers they could. Cullen was truly inspired by Mr. Palmer and his passion for the game. The final picture if the 18th hole at Cullen’s home course. The green fairways look like the greens at Augusta National where Arnold Palmer would play. The faded American Flag represents the amount of time Cullen took out of his life to train to become like Arnie. Cullen would walk these fairways everyday after school because he one day dreamed to be as good as Arnold Palmer.

Arnold Palmer was one of the greatest ambassadors for the game of golf. He inspired people like Johnny Mack Brown to be just like him. Johnny Mack spread to his grandson Cullen and then Cullen loved the game for the rest of his life. Arnie created a legacy for himself that will never be forgotten because of all he did for the game of golf. His uniqueness and his character define who he is and how much he loved the game of golf.
