Lattuca appears to be trying to persuade his readers with picture essay that soccer is better than football. In his first picture there is soccer ball and a football drawn on a piece of paper. The soccer ball is drawn on left side of the page and towards the top of the page, while the football is drawn on the right side of the page and towards the bottom. Joseph does this to make soccer seem superior to football because things that are higher up usually have more power.

Lattuca’s next picture is a picture of a soccer player and then a picture of a football player right next to him. The soccer player is David Beckham and he looks poised to either make a move or play a brilliant pass that could lead to a goal scoring opportunity. The background of this picture is blurred out to give more focus to the brilliant David Beckham. The football player in the picture next to David Beckham is Emmitt Smith, the legendary cowboys running back. He looks like he has just taken a handoff and is looking up field to see where the defenders are so that he can avoid them and reach the end zone for a touchdown. The background for his picture is also blurred out so that all the focus is on him. The way Lattuca makes his argument that soccer is better than football in this picture is with the words on each picture. The picture of Beckham has the words “football” written it and with an arrow pointing at the soccer ball, which in Europe a soccer ball is called a football. In the picture with Smith the words “hand egg” are written with an arrow pointed at the football. Lattuca is making fun of football by calling it a hand egg and by making soccer seem like it is the only true football by writing the words football on the soccer ball rather than just calling it a soccer ball. Literally a football is not even in shape of a ball so why call it a football? makes no sense.

The next two pictures are picture of Jerome Betis and Cristiano Ronaldo. The backgrounds on both these pictures are blurred out to give more focus to each athlete. Ronaldo is seen with his shirt, probably to show off his amazingly ripped body. He looks like is walking back to locker room after a practice. Betis is seen without his helmet on, which means he probably just came out of the game. These two pictures side by side are trying to compare the fit soccer players compared to fat football players.

The fourth picture of Lattuca’s essay is a picture of two football teams, the Bears and the Titans, and the offense is getting ready to snap the ball to start the next play while the defense is going to try to stop them. The offensive team is the Bears and it looks like their quarterback is trying to point out to the line which linebacker is getting ready to blitz so that the offensive line blocks that linebacker so the quarterback doesn’t get sacked. The defense is the Titans and they are all set waiting for the center to hike the ball for the play to begin. On this picture is writing that says “10 minutes of sport, 50 minutes of commercials.” This means that majority of the football game is just watch commercials instead of being able to actually watch the football game. Soccer on the other hand has no commercials and is only the soccer game the whole time the game is on television.

The next picture is of two soccer players on the left side and on the right side is a picture of a football player. The soccer players are on opposite teams. One of them has the soccer ball and is sprinting down the sideline while the other one is chasing him so that he can take the ball from him. The picture of the football player is just of him sitting on a bench, hunched over like he is sad and is drinking some water probably because he just worked really hard and is tired so he needed a break or maybe they just lost a game so he is sad that his team lost. The caption on the soccer players’ picture reads “85 minutes…still sprinting” and on the football player’s picture, the caption reads “ran 12 yards needs 5-minute break.” This shows how soccer players have way more stamina than football players and in other words in a lot better shape than football players

Lattuca’s last pictures are of two soccer teams in a black and white picture and the other is a color picture of some football players. The soccer teams look like they had just done the national anthem and are about to take the field to start the game. The other is a picture of five football players who look like they are just posing for a picture after a football game. Under the picture of the soccer team there is a caption that reads “born in the second century bc” and the caption under the football players reads “born in 1869.” In between the two pictures the caption reads “which came first?” Lattuca was also trying to use the black and white and color pictures to show which one came first and two show how much earlier soccer was created than American Football. Lattuca is also trying to show how ignorant Americans could be because the changed the name of European football to soccer even though it came thousands of years before American football was even created. Soccer is played all over the world and American football isis literally on played in America, so why did Americans feel the need to change the name of a sport that is way more popular than American football.
