Throughout the article Ferguson Uncensored, the article focuses heavily on the ongoing battle between authority figures and individuals of the black lives matter movement. The images addressed showcase the struggles that members of the African American community have to deal with on a daily basis. By looking at Ferguson Uncensored, we can see that the photographer is able to utilize various color schemes and positioning of different icons as a way to portray the images in a particular way. This allows for the photographer to force readers to experience a specific set of emotions, which can lead to a more powerful and iconic photograph. It also causes viewers to unknowingly feel a certain way towards specific images which is a major part of society today.

One of the more graphic pictures shows a man being aimed at by a group of police officers. The image is powerful since in it man is being shown using the famous “hands up don’t shoot” position. The photographer is also able to frame the man in a peaceful light, which makes the police look even more hostile in the image. The design is effective at causing readers to automatically side with the man who is being aimed at, due to the way that the photographer presented the picture. Furthermore, there is also a mailbox in the picture which has the slogan “Fuck the police” written on it, this is one of the trademark statements of the Black Lives Matter community. By showing the slogan in the image, it allows for viewers to get a more developed sense of the setting, as well as showing them the tension in the area between police and residents. The photographer utilizes two of the most recognizable slogans of the Black Lives Matter movement which allows for viewers to empathize with the residents in the area, which is exactly what the photographer wants. The visual text in the image is only one of the ways in which the photographer was able to frame the picture. He also uses a paler color scheme as a way to present the man as peaceful, whereas the army is shown wearing police uniforms which in the area are associated with caution. Traditionally paler colors are associated with peaceful tendencies which allows for the photographer to use the guns as a way to further increase tension in the image. The picture clearly and effectively illustrates to readers that the police are the hostile force and that the man is just a bystander having to deal with unnecessary harassment.

Another image that was extremely powerful and highlighted the conflict between the police and members of the Black Lives Matter community was the image of the man throwing a glass bottle at police officers. Similar to the image where the man has his hands up, the photographer is also able to frame this picture in a particular way to generate certain feelings from viewers. He first utilizes very vivid and descriptive colors like orange as well as smoke clouds, by doing this he is able to successfully highlight the contrast in police and residents in the area. The image is directed towards audience members who aren’t generally aware of the increased tensions in Ferguson, by utilizing different techniques the photographer is able to showcase the worst aspects of the conflict. Furthermore, by showing the resident in the act of throwing the bottle it serves as a way to heighten the conflict. The photographer also deliberately includes an image of a church in the top left of the picture. Typically, churches are associated with positive feelings or forgiveness, which is ironic due to the amount of violence being shown in the rest of the image. By showing the audience the setting of the photo it allows for them to realize the depth to which the social tension between Black Lives Matter and the police, which is exactly what the photographer wanted. The image also focuses heavily on the gas clouds in the middle surrounding the man throwing the bottle. He includes these as a way to show how bothsides are fighting eachother, not just one group. The image also has gas clouds that are recently started which shows how the picture was taken during the conflict. By showing the recent fight it allows for viewers to realize that the situation is currently ongoing and needs to be addressed immediately by society. 

Finally, the last image that focuses on the struggle between the Black Lives Matter movement and the law enforcement agency is when a protestor has water poured on her eyes to recover from a poison gas attack. The photographer successfully depicts the pain that is being brought onto members of the Black Lives Matter community by showing how they deal with the aftermath of the police in the area. The photographer also takes advantage of the readers’ emotions; in the picture the women is shown in immense pain which causes the readers to resonate with her and take her point of view. This allows for the authors to steer the viewer into thinking that only the members of the Black Lives Matter movement are having to deal with the blunt of the punishment. The women is also shown wearing white, which is typically a more peaceful color which causes the audience to believe that the peaceful protestors are being hurt. 

In each of the pictures it focuses heavily on the readers being forced to empathize with the members who are dealing with the brutality of the police officers. In a different context this picture might not mean a lot, but taken specifically in the community of Ferguson it resonates the readers to immediately associate the topic with the police conflict. The picture also utilizes different symbolisms as a way to effectively communicate with readers. It almost looks as if the women is getting baptized, which associates viewers with a religious cleansing. This is just another way for the reader to force viewers into taking the side of the Black Lives Matter movement against the police. The authors of Ferguson Uncensored focus intensely on the stress between the Black Lives Matter movement and the mainly white police force in the area, however this is only to bring attention to the matter which could hopefully bring an end to racism all across the United States.
