The chronology of the motion picture, the lyrics of the song, the scenery, and the perspective of the main character in the music video of The Scientist by Coldplay all work together to send a message to the audience that you never truly appreciate what you have until its gone in order to teach the audience not to take anything for granted.

2. The chronology, the scenery, the main character’s perspective, and the song lyrics are all elements in the music video of The Scientist by Coldplay that work together to

My opening sentence needs to be much more general and also attention grabbing. Grab attention by opening the paragraph by talking about the power of music. As of right now, my opening sentence is my thesis statement and the thesis statement of an essay should be at the end of the introduction. It is also really wordy, so I need to simplify it.

-Needs a topic sentence that supports my thesis. Add transition words.

The chronology of the music video is in reverse. The video starts at the end of the story that is being told, all the subjects move in a reversed manner, and the video ends with the start of the story. This allows the audience to experience a sense of mystery while watching the motion picture. The beginning of the video is seemingly uneventful and throughout the duration of it, the viewer is constantly waiting to see what happens at the end. The lead singer of Coldplay, Chris Martin, is lying on a mattress on the side of a street at the very start of the music video. The video then progresses with him walking backwards through numerous streets until he ends up in a forest. Lying on the grass, we see a woman next to a car with its windshield destroyed. Chris Martin then gets into the car, which tumbles back up the side of a mountain and swerves out of another car’s way. It is then revealed to us that the passenger took off her seatbelt to quickly put her jacket on, which was the reason she was ejected from the car when it flew off the cliff, while Chris survived the crash. The video ends with them driving, laughing together, and enjoying themselves. Since the events of the whole video all built up to expose the ending, the conclusion of the video has that much more of an impact on the viewer. It evokes a strong emotional response from the audience. *make two separate paragraphs with two different topic sentences. This emotional response from the audience is so strong because the music video is being played out from the perspective of the main character, Chris Martin. This causes the viewer to really connect with the lead singer as they place themselves in his shoes.

-I provided evidence from the music video by describing the events of the video and how they flow. I described how the video starts, how it transitions throughout the duration of it, and what is revealed at the end of the video. I need to analyze these details then interpret that analysis into my own words.

Quotes from song= “Oh Take me back to the start”=he wants to go back to the way things were before they ended. He wants to start over and do things differently. He wants to appreciate the girl he had before she is gone which relays the message of the video. “You don’t know how lovely you are”= he never told her how lovely he thought she was and he realizes that she doesn’t know how he feels for her. Now, she will never know because she is gone and he is regretting never having told her in the past when he actually had the chance.

My purpose in writing this essay is to describe how the different elements of the music video tie together to portray a certain message to the viewer. I picked this visual text because The Scientist by Coldplay is my favorite song of all time and the music video for the song is one that I have always enjoyed and been interested in. The duration of the video is like a mystery that you crack at the very end, and the ending itself hits very hard emotionally. I would like to have a reflective and thoughtful voice in this essay. This voice will be effective for this text because I am analyzing the music video and the song lyrics to uncover a message.

I liked this process because it provoked many thoughts about my writing and my essay as a whole. This assignment helped me understand what Ms. Junqueira is looking for in our essays. I really like the topic I am writing about and I feel like I really understand the connections I am making to my visual text, so I am looking forward to writing this essay. I didn’t think I would be able to write even close to 4 pages, but now I believe I can.
