July 20th, 1969 is arguably one of the most historic days in mankind’s history, but some say it did not even happen. On this day, the U.S sent Apollo 11 into action in attempt to land on the moon. The U.S wanted to be the first country to set foot on the moon. After a few days in orbit the crew of Neil Armstrong, Micheal Collins and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon’s surface. The visual text of Buzz Aldrin looking at the flag is one of the most well-known photographs. People love being the best and love their country. This picture gives you both. This picture was taken for the satisfaction of Americans to give them a sense of happiness and euphoria, a glimpse of hope and love for their country.

This picture was taken by Neil Armstrong, an astronaut and he is no photograph specialist but there are still many things that can be taken from this photo. The camera used must have been very high tech for a picture to be taken on the moon and to get this amazing quality is outstanding. This was a historic time and half a billion people are watching. Every single American was gazing upon their TV smiling. Everything that makes up this photo just gives off patriotism. From the footprints, to the flag, to the ship, it just seems so real. Everybody likes to win and this was a win for the United States. It is hard to capture one of the most historic events in history in a picture but this picture is probably as good as it will get. The flag standing tall symbolizes conquer. The United States wins, they own it the moon, and they are the best nation in the world. It is the American flag therefore nobody else can feel any entitlement. This mission was for the Americans, seeing this photo gave them euphoria in a well-known tough time for America. The flag also shows unity, for this was a time of civil injustice, wars and change. This brought the citizens together as one and made them forget about everything. It made them forget about stereotypes and racial segregation and realizes we all want the same thing, freedom. There is also some conspiracy theorists’ asking how the flag is blowing in a vacuum of space. The footprints on the ground symbolize teamwork. This is because there are a lot of them and only a few astronauts. That means that it must be a lot of work to make this event happen because they are all walking around so much after only being there for a few minutes. It just shows how hard this mission was and how they had to work together to make it happen. Another thing seen in this photo is the light scheme. The moon is supposed to be a very dark planet with little light. For some reason the light is facing Aldrin in this photo. This can be compared to as in light was shining on you down from heaven. This light on not only Aldrin but also the flag, it shows hope for all Americans that life will get better and everything will turn around.

This visual text brought back many memories, memories I was not alive for but the idea of the U.S landing on the moon was just so memorable and patriotic. Many wish they were alive to experience this event and I am one of them. This visual text is very famous and easy to write on. For someone who is every patriotic, this came as a breeze. Everybody strives to be the best and that’s what the U.S did. Due to its historic use, I found this visual text very helpful because there were many articles online to help understand everything that went on at this time. It gave me a recap to help me remember exactly what happened leading up to this event and after to help me get assumptions of the picture with probable cause. It will work well for this assignment due to all the conspiracy theories that come with it. One can make an argument for everything in this picture along with the rest of Apollo 11 but there are explanations for it. One has to believe it is real for it is an event that separates the United States from everybody else and there is no reason to fake it if we are capable of just doing it. The debate over whether or not it is real creates a lot to talk about and can make for a good essay. This visual text gives off patriotism, hope and happiness to the viewer and makes people come together over their country.
