People relate to images in many different ways. When looking at an image, each individual may draw an original conclusion. The “Animal Fighting” image from the movie Mean Girls depicts how people imagine fighting before social evolution. I argue that the girls in this image are expressing their emotions in an uncensored way. These girls are fighting because men are provoking them and encouraging them to act uncivilized.

In this scene two high school girls, Cady and Regina, are fighting in a cafeteria. The two girls are in the middle of a crowd that appears to be cheering them on. The girl on top, Cady is dressed in a grey zip up sweater, brown pants and black converse. Her red hair is all over the place as she turns her head to avoid Regina hitting her. Regina is laying on the floor in what looks like a more expensive outfit. She is wearing a red and pink sweater with a skirt and black flats. This represents how it is often the lesser person that starts the fight. In this case the lesser person is Cady because of what she is wearing. People often get in physical fights with people they are not necessarily friends with or are similar to.

There is evidence that they are fighting from the reactions of people around them and their facial expressions. Cady could be fighting Regina for multiple reasons. Girls in high school often fight over petty things. Examples include boys, friends, who wore the same outfit better and many other reasons. The girls in this image take on the roles of animals to represent how girls would handle their emotions before social evolution. Girls often keep their feelings to their self when they wish they could express them in a physical way. This form of violence is frowned upon in today's time. This whole fight could be the imagination of Cady or Regina.

In this scene there are only 3 girls and the rest of the people are men. From the men's expressions, it is clear that the men have mixed emotions watching this fight. In the middle of the background there is a man in a letterman’s jacket. His arms are over his head in a victory expression. It is obvious that he is getting enjoyment out of watching the two girls fight. He could possibly know what they are fighting over since he is cheering them on. But, he could also just be portraying the typical guy who likes it when girls fight. Either way he wants to watch them fight just like many teenage boys.

While the jock looks like he is enjoying the fight, some of the other people are not. The two men in chairs on the left side of the picture look scared. They are not sure as to why the girls are fighting and do not know if they should enjoy it or not. The man in the green shirt, looks upset and is screaming in terror. Some men do not want to encourage girls to fight. This also shows how often the so called “popular” people are more outgoing and like controversial actions. The viewer can interpret that these guys are not popular like the jock, because they are not sitting with him.

Aaron is the guy directly behind the girls, wearing a blue sweater. He is in the stance of an animal and is cheering the girls on as they fight. He knows what they are fighting over and is an involved bystander. He is positioned to the girls the way some animals circle their fighting mates. He looks as if he is jumping around them, to make them feel comfortable acting like animals. The men are encouraging the girls to fight. Women often do what men want them to do. If the men were screaming for them to stop, they probably would.

Cady is from Africa and sees the cafeteria as an African plane. The room represents the habitat of animals. The people in it are the animals and the room itself is the African plane. In this scene the girls are fighting each other the way animals would in the wild. The setting helps encourage the girls to fight because it is an open space that allows many people to watch what is going on. The people are yelling and screaming like animals.

This scene shows how people evolved from animals. Animals resolve their problems with each other by physically fighting. Cady sees this as a normal African animal brawl. People of both genders don’t show their emotions in a healthy way and often keep them to themselves. High school girls especially wish they could express their emotions without being judged. They often hold back and do not physically fight.

The viewer of this image can feel the emotions from the fight of Regina and Cady. The emotions and points of this image are noticeable. While looking at this image, we can see how the men are invoking the girls to fight and how the girls are taking out their emotions physically. The positions of people with different expressions represent how people can interpret this image differently. All images make us think and feel different ideas. The viewer will feel a connection with this image because they have probably felt anger on this level with someone. But, they have probably not actually fought someone.
