Color represents something different to everyone. Each color has tones that generalize the mood to tell a different story and stands out in its own way. This is something that Disney does well. For example, they capture the idea of color with magic, in a realistic and believable way that all ages can appreciate and enjoy the idea of something unproven to be real. Though with the illusion of magic and the realness of color, time is difficult to tell. It blocks the comfort of past and future. It allows the imagination to run free without limitations. When magic is introduced to us as children, the stories we are told often include some kind of evil magic along with the good characters the stories keep our focus on. This image portrays dark and light together which gives the hope that the character in the center is not evil and has no intent to harm the person she carries behind her.

The colors in the background of the photo have different shades of blue and purple. The back of the image stays true to a light gray that shows a hint of mountain top. As the eyes come closer to the front of the picture, more colors emerge. It begins with a spark of light blue, then draws into a purple and bright pink. The colors appear to be shooting up towards the sky in straight beams with different rays spread throughout the trees. All around the image are spots of little red dots, spread back to just before the mountains. The light highlights the tops of the trees allowing the audience to see each of the leaves on them. The idea of magic in the image allows us to see day and night but what it does not allow us to see is past and future. These photos and ideas represent unknown and mythological scenario’s that continue to spark the curiosity of children and adults. The remaking of fairy tales is expanding imaginations of all ages. Though these scenes and ideas also make it difficult to see time.

The light begins in the back of the image at the bottom of the mountains near the tree line. The light guides us through the meadow toward the intended focus of the image. The colors become brighter and thicker yet the shades do not change. The pink stays just as bright on the left and right and the blue and purple stay in their pastel shades. The lights and colors illuminate the stream on the left in a turquoise color. The edges of the photo are dark which concentrates the light on the edges but not the center of the image. The dark color breaks the boarder of reality and magic. It highlights the colors in the center as well. We focus into the meadow, through the light and its arrays, to then find the focus of the image in a silhouette. Although it is not glowing, the eye still catches it while looking but not yet seeing.

Finally, we see the silhouette of the woman and the floating girl behind her. Even though it is night, the lights around her give a glimpse of hope and content. Though many times with old stories, people associate magic with some kind of evil that comes with it. In old fairy tales, our parents and mentors teach us that good magic defeats evil. As we look closer, we see a reflection of light off of the top of the woman’s head. The detail then appears as two horn-like head pieces appear. The woman is wearing a black, long dress that does not fit to her body that serves the purpose to hide who she is underneath. The night time darkness radiates through the meadow with the lights that guide her through. The girl floating behind her looks to be a great deal smaller than the woman. The floating girl has a medium length dress on with white stockings that shows her innocence and vulnerability. The woman walks with great posture to show her power and poise along with her confidence. She is stepping in the image, mid-walk, to show that this is not her final destinations. Her confident and powerful movements allow the reader to make a conclusion that she is moving to something greater.

When the image as a whole comes together, a full story is in creation. We can create stories that seem realistic. Ones that we know can happen in real life. Or we can create stories from our wildest imaginations. The beauty of an image, whether it be a painting, photograph, sketch, any kind of image- time freezes. We keep every feeling inside of it. We keep love inside of it because for in that image, nothing changes. We keep laughter in the image because the feeling cannot go away. Images jog memories yet memories fade away in time. However, in those paintings, photos, and sketches, we cannot change what has passed. As we look back at them, they remind us of what we once had. Though we also learn that we are writing the future as each moment passes. Images are things we get to look at that do not change, they allow permanence; the only permanent thing beside ourselves that we can rely on. In an image, time is forever frozen.
