In the classic American film Forrest Gump, Forrest Gump reiterates the saying his momma always taught him throughout his childhood: that life is like “a box of chocolates”. Through personal experiences, Gump learns this lesson by understanding that life does not always go as expected. Furthermore, with Gump coming to an understanding that he may never know “what he is gonna get”. Forrest does not know that he is not physically alive anymore.. When the famous scene rolls along in the film, Forrest and his young love are laying together on the dock as both look into the “eternity” of the pond. Both are depicted together in the eternal substance of heaven that was Forrest’s lifelong dream. Forrest’s life comes to a close in the movie Forrest Gump, as he and his childhood friend and love, Jenny, are reunited up above in heaven.

In this iconic picture, the characters in the frame are at peace. Both are comfortable with each other's presence and have developed a sense of “home” as they are in the backyard of Gump’s house. Furthermore, it is no surprise that in his heaven, Forrest feels like a kid again. When Forest was a young crippled child, he met the love of his life. Forrest’s childhood represented his heaven as that was the time when he met Jenny. Forrest is now reliving his childhood once again through the heaven he now lies in. For example, both Forrest and Jenny are wearing the exact same outfits as they wore in the school bus when they first met. The only difference is that Forrest does not have any braces on his leg in heaven as opposed to when he suffered with them when he was a schoolboy. This is because wearing his leg braces were not part of his heaven. Forrest was teased as a kid because his imperfection and so when he entered eternal life, he crutches did not rise up with him as he no longer needed them. He was free from any disabilities in heaven.  Forrest “outran” both the bullies who mocked him and the braces that held him back from normality and being accepted.. From there, he enters the afterlife. After a lifetime full of struggles, Forrest finally gets to reside at home once again, but this time his home is a peaceful eternity.

One symbol for heaven is the color white. The afterlife commonly occurs after seeing a flashing “bright white light” and being welcomed by angels wearing the specific color. It is no surprise that in Forrest’s afterlife dream, his “angel” is wearing a lovely white dress. It is clear that Jenny has joined Forrest up above in heaven after many scenes in the movie cautioned the desire for Jenny to jump over different bridges to commit suicide. Jenny eventually achieves her goal as the scene filming her last attempt is cut short. Jenny was not able to fly like the bird she and Forrest always dreamed of in life but in heaven, it becomes a different story. Jenny can now finally fly with Forrest forever by being a guardian angel for her childhood best friend and protecting Forrest in their heaven together. Furthermore, Jenny is wearing a white dress once again as many events from Forrest’s childhood are flashing before his eyes. Forrest gets to relive his heaven by seeing his guardian angel again as they reunite one last time. Forrest chose his guardian angel to be the love of his life and in heaven he got his wish as they now live back home together. They live in the white house on the corner in Greenbow, Alabama. The house is the heaven they stay in as the white paint of the house covers the eternal life that both Jenny and Jenny are now experiencing. In Forrest’s heaven, the color white is prevalent as it is confirming that Forrest has now moved on from life and has entered the eternity of the afterlife.

As Forrest learned the valuable lesson from his momma, Forrest does not know that the chocolate he chooses from the full box is the sweet taste of his heaven. Here he has many different “flavors” of chocolates consisting of all of the dreams that both Forrest and Jenny prayed for when they were kids. After being shot serving for his country in the Vietnam war and going back “home”, Forrest and his guardian angel lay on the dock outside of their house. There, a pond lies ahead of them with no end in sight. The pond represents the eternal life that Forrest and Jenny will spend in heaven together as both Forrest and Jenny will be living with no horizon. As the pond contains many fish and other sea creatures, the two lifelong friends look down at life itself in the never ending distance. The two are now physically and mentally above all other forms of life as they now are living in the bliss of eternal heaven. With Forrest and Jenny’s prayers coming true, Forrest gets a taste of each chocolate that is in his box while sharing a “taste” with his guardian angel.

In this scene of the movie, it is clear that Forrest and Jenny are together in heaven as both are looking into the river of “eternity” while being back “home”. As Jenny and Forrest lay in their school clothes as they look up ahead at the never ending pond carrying life itself. The two now lie before life and will never come to a “horizon”. Furthermore, Jenny becomes the guardian angel Forrest has always wished upon as once again Jenny is wearing the white dress that she wore when her and Forrest first met. After suffering through many events in his life, Forrest finally rises up to heaven and joins his young love once again. However, unlike when they were kids, they will now be with each other forever.
