An image can be looked as visual text because it contains one or more elements. What an image depicts is analyzed by the viewer. The element inside the image can develop, illustrate and contribute to the element it is trying to portray. These elements relate together to expose a larger message. In this image, the placing of the views of both guys, the fact that the motorcyclist is not showing any effort to help, and the contrast of the colors, are the elements. The look between the motorcyclist and the guy in the hole which depicts and illuminates how the government views poverty and how they are not offering much help just passing by it which the contrast of the brown and blue/green colors surely show the barrier between the two.

Initially, the guy in the left is found to be in what seems like a hole filled with muddy water and is probably there to fix something and there happens to be a motorcyclist who seems to be some sort of police passing by. Also, there is an obvious contrast of colors. Surrounding the man in the hole of water is a display of browns while as the focus turns towards the police man there is more blue and green more like clean colors. The visual exposes more these two characters since they are up close or foreground. Being that the man in the hole is only exposing part of himself and the police man is shown fully as a result also depicts a sign of superiority because of their sizes. This is caused that the police man is viewing down and the man in the hole is looking up to him (Abd). This supports the idea that this picture is representing the relationships between the government and poverty or destitution. Indicating that the government isn’t doing much or nothing at all to help those in need. The lower man seems to be ashamed of himself by not even coming up to show his face wholly. Maybe he wasn’t supposed to be there, fell in, or is working, the man in the pit knows he is in a rough situation. In his look, there is an expression of weariness and fatigue.

First of all, the differences in the views between the two men. While one is looking down at the other, their size is also distinctive. This is symbolic to the idea of the government and poverty. The way the police man looks down at the man in the hole equally relates to how maybe the government looks down at the poor and destitute (Abd). The face expression depicts how the police man feels towards the man in the pit. This illustrates how the government or how people in from the “high” class, as it is known, look upon such people. This supportive element is crucial to when analyzing the image or visual. The size of each man relates to this idea by demonstrating a sign of the government wanting to always seem and appear and overlooking over society. The police man, by his look, is trying to transmit fear or the image of superiority upon the man in the pit of muddy water. Like the man in the muddy water, many people find themselves in need and sinking in their troubles and look up to the government for help.

Secondly, the image depicts how the police man doesn’t appear to be making an effort to help the man down in the ditch or worry about what is going on. One can predict that he is just passing by without doing nothing. The police man is riding on a clean motorcycle and doesn’t want to come close to altering his image (Abd). Supporting the idea of how the government is aware of conditions in its country and not doing anything. This is something that many people in different countries are seeing and living. By shooting this image, the producer wanted to speak through the image. The image not only portrays the police man passing by but looking like he takes the time to slow down, look at the man and decide to continue on. This affects the viewer by demonstrating and displaying the mistreatment and misuse of power by the government. Not even the people on the side of the man in the hole seem to care or pay any attention to him.

As a final point, the contrast in colors speak to the reader and emphasize the idea of how in society there is a boundary between the government or superior power to the poor and underprivileged. There is a distinction in colors surrounding both men. Surrounding the man in the pit is brown and dirt and devastation in the nearby edifices while neighboring the police man is a display of blue and green which represent life and also pureness and cleanliness (Abd). In addition, the buildings near the police man look like wholesome or healthy buildings with plants. This delineates the idea of separation between the two classes of people. Psychically separating the two is a rope which is used to separate and prevent people from harm. Examples are in crime scenes and construction sites.

Like the man in the hole, many people in different parts of the world are facing situations as in the image. It predominantly consists of people from the “low” class as many people classify it. People who find themselves in these circumstances are being forced to deal with their problems by themselves with their own resources. Like the man in the hole, according to the producer of this image, “millions are trying not to drown in the multiple problems” (Abd). With this image alone, the viewer can make out a meaning that could later form itself into idea to do something about conditions like such. The police man looking down and just passing by expresses how the government, people in higher positions, or anyone can act similarly and not do anything or even make the effort. However, could this just be the standard or abnormal way of living without any significance? Just like the contrast between the shades of colors separated both men, could there be a natural separation between the rich and poor, the powerful and the defenseless? Only one thing can be sure and the image depicts that it is real.
