The film Troy is based on the, Iliad, a story that everyone should know. In the poster it says “the legend will live” because everyone knows this story. It also shows two battles that are occurring at the same time. One of the battles starts because of a romance and the other because of the death of a family member. The battle between Achilles and Prince Hector are intertwined with the large battle between Troy and King Agamemnon’s troops.

Throughout the film the audience sees a major battle occurring which was caused by Prince Paris’ “stealing” of King Menelaus’ wife Helen. This situation caused King Menelaus to be infuriated, and so he asked his brother King Agamemnon for help to get his wife back. King Agamemnon took advantage of his brothers’ rage to declare war against Troy so that he could control all of the Aegean Sea. The king then called upon all of his armies to sail to Troy and this is the famous thousand ship fleet that was caused because of Helens disappearance. The fleet landing on the beach of Troy is what is displayed in the background of the poster. The landing of the thousand ship fleet on the Trojan beach represented the beginning of the war.

Agamemnon’s army was not the only ships that arrived. Achilles also had a ship with his army. His army was actually the first one to land and they had to take over the beach. In this scene and in the poster, the sky is grey because it symbolizes that it was not a good day. The day consisted of bloodshed and that the days to come would be all about war. During the battle on the beach Achilles encountered Prince Hector at the palace of the sun god Apollo where Achilles told he prince to return to his palace and that they could have their war the next day, and with that said Prince Hector returned to his palace and got his army ready for the days to come. Once Prince Hector left Achilles cut off the head that belonged to the statue of Apollo. Which is why the gods had to get involved with Achilles. This is portrayed in the poster with the beam of light that is on him. This is shown because Achilles is half god, and the beam of light is coming from above because that is where Olympus is located.

After the second day of war, Achilles informed his troops that he no longer wanted to be involved in the war and they would be sailing back in the morning. His cousin Patroclus disagreed with his decision, so the next day Patroclus decided to go against Achilles decision and he put on Achilles armor. He then led Achille’s army to war and he let all of the troops believe that he was Achilles. During this day of war Patroclus encounters Prince Hector and they both fought. Their fight resulted in Patroclus’ throat being slit and when they took off his helmet everyone realized that it was not Achilles under the armor.

Achilles’ troops then took Patroclus’ dead body back to the beach, and they informed Achilles about what happened. The death of his cousin infuriated him and he was no longer going to sail back home because he had to avenge his cousin. This was the start of another personal battle that occurred during this film, and the reason why you see Hector and Achilles going for the kill in the poster. The next morning Achilles rides off in the chariot to the palace of Troy and yelled “Hector” until Hector came down to fight him.

Everything that had occurred is what led to the main scene that is portrayed in the poster. This poster shows Prince Hector covered by darkness, and he is also wearing leather armor. The darkness and the weak armor makes Prince Hector be represented as a lesser power in comparison to Achilles. Achilles has sunlight beaming down on his shinning gold metal armor. The light and darkness shown is the poster shows them as weaker or stronger because of the continuous battle between light and dark. In these kinds of battle light is the power that usually the power that win. Achilles also has a blade for a weapon while Prince Hector has a broken arrow. The weapons are another way that represented Prince Hector as weaker than Achilles. In a way the weapons that are shown also foreshadow the ending of the movie.

During the battle between Prince Hector and Achilles, Prince Hector is the one that died. Achilles killed him by stabbing his blade into Prince Hectors neck, which is why in the poster the blade is pointed at his throat. The reason that Prince Hector has a broken arrow pointed down towards Achilles, is because that is the weapon that killed him in the end. Even though, Prince Hector is not the one that killed him, his brother did. At the end of the film Prince Paris killed Achilles with a bow and arrow. He shot him multiple times, but the one that led to his death was his heel.

The battle between Achilles and Prince Hector is what gave Achilles and the Trojan War the fame that it now has. The battles that occurred in the film were personal and led to the death of many people. This story became legendary; everyone is aware of it, though they may not know of everything that happened. Everybody knows about the Trojan horse and that it was used to infiltrate the city. At the end of the war the city was burned down and Achilles got what he wanted. He was part of a war that became legendary and everyone will know his name and his story because of it.
