Those who have not read or watched the Hunger Games series are able to get an idea on what the series is about through this film poster. The poster is a photo of a young girl wearing an all red uniform sitting upon a white chair. The background of the photo is completely white as well. The viewer might also notice the arrows slung over the young girl’s back and assume she is using them in war or battle. If the viewer has prior knowledge on the film series then they would know that the young girl’s name is Katniss. One would assume that the film is about a young girl who is fighting for what she believes in while facing many challenges along the way. Also, it is evident that the young girl is the leader or hopes to become the leader since she is sitting in the throne-like chair.

The viewer notices that the only two colors used in the film poster are white and red which symbolize what the movie is going to include. Katniss’s armor is all red symbolizing action, strength, and leadership which are qualities she possesses. Red symbolizes violence, anger and danger which gives the reader the impression that there is a disagreement between two groups of people. The red of the arrows slung over Katniss’s back show the viewer that there is a war or a fight in the film that Katniss takes part in. Red also represents romance, love and passion so one might assume that she is in a relationship. With prior knowledge the viewer would know that Katniss is torn between two men, Peeta and Gale. The white on the chair represents protection and safety which is what the leader wants for his or her citizens. Also white represents unity which shows that she has a team and they hope to overcome their opponent and unite with the rest of the world.

Katniss’s attire looks like an army uniform or armor, implying that she will be participating in the war. The uniform is covers her entire body and includes shields protecting her chest of injury. The fact that the armor is red only proves the point that she will be engaging in violent behavior. The arrows slung over her back inform the viewer of her preferred weapon for battle. The viewer assumes that Katniss must be very handy with a bow and arrow. One who has read the books or seen the movies knows that the bow and arrow is Katniss’s preferred weapon and that she is very talented. Also, it is pretty common that Katniss is in uniform because she is usually on a mission, fighting in the Hunger Games or taking part in the rebellion. Her hair is pulled back and looks very scraggly which shows she is working hard. From reading the books and viewing the movies one knows that Katniss almost always has her hair in a braid which shows her athletic and sporty side.

Katniss’s positioning in the white chair shows the viewer that she is confident and strong which is something every leader needs. The way her arms are sprawled out show that she is comfortable which is strange considering she is taking part in a war. This could mean that she is winning the war or she has confidence that they will win. Katniss’s crossed legs show manners which give the viewer the idea that she is playing by the rules and following orders from someone. The way she pushes out her chest in the film poster shows the viewer she is strong and believes in her team. Her facial expressions give the viewer a different idea, it doesn’t seem as if she is content or confident. However, her facial expressions show that she is angry and fierce which means she is ready to fight her opponent.

The chair Katniss is sitting in looks like it would belong to a King or Queen because of the structure. The structure is tall and ancient looking with artistic aspects along the legs and back of the chair as well. The fact that it is white shows protection and safety which is what the leader wants to achieve from he war. Being that Katniss is sitting in the chair the viewer believes she is the leader. One who has read the series or has seen the movies knows that Katniss is the “Mockingjay” which means she is the leader and symbol of the rebellion. So it makes sense that she would be sitting in the throne for the film poster because without her there would be no rebellion.

The film poster gives the viewer the idea that the young girl is taking part in the war. Also, we get the idea that Katniss is the leader because she is the only person in the photo and she is sitting in the chair that looks like a throne. The fact that the throne is white symbolizes that the leader is hoping to achieve unity, protection, and safety from the war. Katniss and her team are fighting against the government because it is corrupt and unfair. She is fighting for what she believes in and working to achieve her goals. She hopes to better their country and live in a safer place. The red also symbolizes blood because the leader of the country now uses blood to scare the citizens and mostly Katniss. Because Katniss is fighting in the rebellion one would believe she is fighting to improve life for those around her, such as her family and friends. The young girl in the film poster represents so much more than a girl wearing all red with arrows slung over her back. She is the “Mockingjay” and she is the symbol of the entire rebellion, this is why she is the only one in the poster. Without her there wouldn’t be a rebellion, the government would still be corrupt and no one would do anything about it. The red on her uniform shows she is here to fight and free the country from the current leader. Overall, the viewer sees that the young girl in the film poster is a fighter and wants to achieve success in the rebellion.
