The music video Adventure of a Lifetime by the band Coldplay consists of a unique message that portrays how music can bring people, or as we see in the video monkeys, together through the sound of music. Throughout the song they constantly repeat the lyrics, “Now I feel my heart beating I feel my heart underneath my skin and I feel my heart beating Oh, you make me feel Like I'm alive again Alive again Oh, you make me feel Like I'm alive again”. By connecting the lyrics to the video we can see that this new music the chimpanzees discovered bring happiness and joy to their home therefore making them feel “alive again”. what about the lyrics and music video? Avoid describing the visuals and words/lyrics til the body paragraphs – here you should just be framing the reader to understand what they will be reading about. The chimpanzees seemed to be somewhat “out of it” or upset about something before they discovered this new music, it seemed to be rejuvenating to them bring happiness to the rainforest again. The viewer is able to see this with the close ups to their faces displaying there smiles and inner contentment.

In the opening seen of the video we see 4 monkeys sitting around and through their facial expressions you can tell that they’re a bit unsettle. Topic sentence? what is this paragraph about? Color, symbolism, emotion, etc? We then see one of the four apes pick up a beats pill that he was intrigued by and it begins to play music, the song Adventure of a Lifetime. The monkeys are then interested with this unknown device and begin to dance and move with the sound of the music. The chimpanzee that discovered the beats pill begins dance and sing along with his companions. The background in this scene encompasses many lively colors, which sets a joyful tone in the scene. The chimpanzees begin to smile and fill more and more with energy as the song continues to play. They start to dance in unison and start playing around with one another and appear to be very content with their lives at this point, a complete shift from the opening seen. The producer uses a long shot in the scenes where the chimpanzees are dancing to capture the liveliness of the chimpanzees and their happiness. When the viewer compares this to the opening scene they can see the clear difference in emotion. The chimpanzees make a connection with the music it seems like. They difference the viewer can see is in the liveliness of the rainforest itself. As the video progresses the viewer can notice that the colors and camera shots become more vivid and alive. We see the colors becoming more vibrant and brighter as the video moves on. Also the viewer can see the personality of the chimpanzees shifting from dull to more electrifying or exhilarant. This is all visual description - each paragraph should contain equal parts description and analysis.

After dancing and playing around in the rainforest the chimpanzees find a field with instruments, which they show quite a deal of interest in. They begin the experiment with the instruments and see what each one has to offer. After a good bit of playing around with each instrument the monkeys begin to play the son Adventure of a Lifetime. The more and more they play the more and more chimpanzees come to watch, sing, play, and dance. Its as if they brought the community together as one through the sound of music. All the monkeys were extremely happy and content and nothing could take their minds off the hymns of music being played. As the 4 chimps played the instruments the rest of the community of monkeys would be dancing and clapping in unison along with the beat of the drums and rhythm of the song. The producer of the video moved the setting to a more open serene environment so we can see the liveliness of the community of chimpanzees and how they react and enjoy themselves. With the changing in setting the viewer can also see how the population begins to grow and grow as the music keeps on playing. When the chimpanzees are playing the instruments as a band the producer used a long shot to capture a full body image of everyone in the band so that the viewer can see the chimpanzees playing in unison. However he also captures some close ups to see the different instruments and so the viewer can see each individual play their own instrument. This is again where we can see the shift from the tone in the beginning of the video. The chimpanzees are having the time of their life playing and jamming out to the music. The lyrics in the song ties in with the visuals and the motions of the chimpanzees. “If we've only got this life this adventure, oh, then I And if we've only got this life you get me through”. The chimpanzees were on an “adventure” they were discovering the meaning of the music and what it was. They dove in and realized that it brought warmth and happiness to there community. This paragraph needs to be either consolidated or broken into different ideas – too long-winded.

Though the interpretation of the visuals and the connection with the lyrics the viewer can conclude that music brings individuals together and that is the message the producer was trying to get across. The different camera shots enhance the meaning by giving the viewer a different and more in depth perspective of what is occurring the video. The viewer receives close ups which helps us see the emotion on the faces of the chimpanzees. With the issues in our world today I believe this a definite message many artists are trying to get across nowadays with all the racism, terrorism, and protests going on in our world. This is too far out from what this essay is about – stick to the topic and text. The use on chimpanzees instead of humans allowed the viewer to see that different races/species can come together as one and be happy, which then leaves the viewer thinking. Why can’t we do the same? Avoid ending on a question.
