How do you know something is true? How do you know something is true love or that two people are really in love? Love can be expressed through words and actions and for someone to really know it’s true, you can see it in the eyes of the couples. You can see that the couple feels secure with one another and at peace. Some say there is only one person in the world that is your soul mate; others like myself think there is more than one person out there in the world that could be your soul mate. My grandparents are a couple who I believe were each other’s soul mates, even though my grandma was married before. At my Aunt’s weddings, the photographer captured a picture of my grandma and grandpa dancing in the middle of everyone, even though it was not their special day. The photographer captured the genuine affection of a moment in the picture by the way it shows the facial expressions and body language of the couple, how the shot is taken, and the way shot is taken. The figures in the photograph are the sharpest images in the entire picture, which the photographer highlighted by blurring the rest of the image.

When looking at the photograph, the viewer can point out the body language and facial expressions’ of the couple right away. My grandfather’s face is leaned up against my grandmother’s face and his eyes are closed. Their bodies are very close to one another and her eyes are half-shut, almost like she is dreaming of something good. These point out to the viewer that they seem very comfortable with one another, that they are happy to be in each other’s arms and that nothing else around them matters. This can allude to being in love because they are both in the comfort of one another and look at ease. My grandfather’s eyes closed can mean that he is taking all of this in and does not want it to end. They say that you can tell it is true love by looking at a couple and how they interact with one another. This photograph really captures that the couple is very much in love with one another and very content with it. This shot that really exemplifies my grandparent’s body language shows that it is genuine. It almost is like the photographer seemed to catch this moment with out him or her planning it and with out my grandparents even knowing. The photographer captures a simple, blissful moment of love.

The way in which the photograph is shot relates to the meaning of true love. Even though my grandparents are in the background of this picture, they still remain the focus of this picture because of everything else being blurred out around them. This stands true even for love. When two people love each other they don’t always have to constantly remind one another or show it to the world because they always know that they love each other. The shot almost seems as if the photographer was peeking through at them because my grandparents are not posed. The photographer was almost being voyeuristic when taking this shot because it really was such an innocent but intense moment. They look like they are in the moment and that they were not ready for a picture of them to be taken. A photographer’s job at a wedding is to capture moments like this one where people seem to be in love and happy. Photographs give off a certain mood and the photographer captured the mood of love when taking this picture. All of the sensations that the photograph gave off during the actual wedding are still felt when someone views the picture. Looking at the picture, one could just want to walk right into the picture and sit there for a while taking in how much love my grandparents are giving off. There is also a lot of love around my grandparents are other couples dancing that were captured in inmate romantic moments as well. But the figures around my grandparents are much younger than them. They are in contrast to my grandparents because the younger couple’s love is new and energetic while my grandparents seem to be old and quiet. Making the oldest couple the main focus of the picture really indicates that love can really last a while no matter how old you or your partner get.

When taking photographs, some are not planned just in the moment. When deciding how to edit the photograph, it takes effort to make it the perfect picture. The photographer chose to make this photograph black and white for a specific reason. When you see something black and white it usually relates to old and classic. The love you can see by looking at the photograph is very old. It has been a love that has been around for a very long time and will be forever. Black and white reminds people of old or classic. The shot of my grandparents dancing in a genuine moment makes it clearer to the viewer that their love for one another is never ending and quite a classic love story. The photographer is evoking a particular ideal of love that fits the context that is the wedding. It is a timeless image, almost like the photographer captured their timeless love for one another. Black and white also creates a “natural” feel and look, which the way my grandparents love looks like. The photographer also wanted to the capture the true, most important part of the photograph which is my grandparents dancing. All of the elements to this picture create sense of emotion in the actual wedding. It captures the true essence of what a wedding symbolizes, a lifelong commitment of love and support. When a photograph is in color, it distracts the viewer from seeing the main focus of the picture. When a photograph is in black and white, it allows you to think about the key elements of the actual picture, like the relationship between the main subject and the background. It draws the eye to the attention of what really matters and in this photograph it is my grandparents dancing. It makes their emotional and romantic bond with one another more striking and noticeable. When two people are so in love with one another, nothing else in the world matters and the black and white, blurred edges, and my grandparent body language can attest for that kind of love.

Photographs have a lot of hidden meanings behind them. The way in which the photographer shoots the picture, why he or she shot it that way, and their edit really depicts the overall meaning. The picture of my grandparents captures the true genuine moment of two people really in love with one another. The shot taken as outsider peeking in on a couple clearly in love, the actual wedding setting capturing the essence of what the mood of a wedding gives off, and the body language and emotions you can see of my grandparents are how the photographer captured the special romantic moment. Using black and white, blurring out the images around my grandparents, and using my grandparents even though they are in the background of the photo for the main focus of the photograph, made it all very natural and subtle but strong, just like my grandparents love for one another.
