Everyone at some point in their life has lost someone they cared about, whether it was a death of a close friend, a long-lost family member or the end of a loving relationship. Somewhere along the line every human will face this challenge. This visual text does a great job of portraying the emotions felt when someone you loved is lost. The author of this image uses symbols, diction and setting to represent the emotions behind losing someone you care about.

First, the author uses symbols to represent the emotions behind losing someone you care about. After ending a long relationship or having a close friend or family member pass away, one feels a sense of loneliness. A person feels lost, left by their partner to face the harsh realities of the world by themselves. The author of this text does a great job of using the lone standing tree to symbolize these feelings. The tree is placed in the center of the photograph to draw the attention to it. Along with the tree being in the middle of the photograph, it is also in the middle of the statement “I miss” and “her”. This placement further shows that the author is truly separated from his other half. The habitat that the tree is placed in looks like one that would be very challenging to survive in which represents the challenges the tree will face without his loved one. The tree is also alone with no other saplings around it. This shows the loneliness and loss. We as humans are social animals so feeling alone is one of the worst feelings in the world. The author does a great job of portraying this loneliness through the single tree, it really portrays the emotions felt when losing someone you love.

Second, the author also uses diction to covey the emotions behind losing someone you love. There is really only one example of diction in this visual text, but the message it represents is probably the most important one of the photograph. The words on the brick wall read “I miss her”. This statement gives viewers a sense of loss, emptiness and loneliness. Missing someone is the biggest part about losing them. After they are gone you always want them back with you, you always long for the great memories you shared with that person. It’s not until you get over the fact that those memories are in the past, that you can move on.

Finally, the author uses setting to display the emotions behind losing someone you love. The setting of this visual text is an empty back alley with almost no life. This barren setting symbolizes loneliness. When you lose someone you love, everything around you seems dead and bleak. Your life is not the same anymore; you seem to now be all alone. The emptiness of the setting helps portray this emotion with the lack of life except for one tree. Everything also looks really boring and not really vibrant. This aspect of the setting helps portray the feeling of bleakness.

To conclude, this visual text beautifully represents the emotions felt by someone who has lost someone close with them. Emptiness, loneliness and bleakness, all displayed perfectly in this photograph. Losing someone is a terrible thing, and it can happen at any moment in time. The best thing to do is love and make great memories with the people you cherish while you have them so you don’t regret it when they are gone. Because it will hurt when they are gone and you will feel these emotions expressed through this visual text. But in the end there will be a future without them, and it is really important to enjoy that future. Because otherwise you will come to the end of your life and regret not living it. So enjoy life while you have it because it will not last forever.
