Genius film director and producer Michael Bay released the movie Transformers in 2007. The outstanding movie won the award for best visual effects, respectively, due to the constant illumination of Megan Fox’s character, Michaela Banes. This was the first movie in which Fox had played such an impacting role. The film tells the story from a human point of view, despite all of the havoc caused by the alien robots. High school nerd, Sam Witwicky, was unintentionally forced into a life altering situation in which he must save the world with Banes. Witwicky was always aware of Banes in his classes, but she never took notice of him. She had an athlete boyfriend at the time, but that never stopped Witwicky from talking to her. Bay made it obvious that Witwicky had a crush on Banes, leading to the film makers purposefully focusing and gazing upon Banes’s body during certain scenes. The trilogy is truly a story of Sam’s journey into manhood. He must overcome many fears, including his fear to talk to Banes, and ultimately become a warrior in order to defeat the decepticons. The scene where Banes was operating on Witwicky’s car, along with the last violent scene in which Witwicky was willing to sacrifice his life to save mankind, prompting Banes to care for him, shows how the film makers focus on Michaela Banes and her beauty along with displaying witwicky’s fearlessness as the movie progressed.

The plot of Transformers is classic in the fact that the male character saves the world and while doing so, starts a relationship with the main female character who he had always had feelings for. Throughout the movie, Banes and Witwicky are put in extraordinary positions. Bay focuses a lot of the film on Banes’s physique, specifically the curves on her body. Witwicky’s car broke down while driving Banes home, so Banes got out of the car to try and fix the problem. During the rather provocative scene, she was mostly bent forward looking at the car’s engine, but her body structure and outfit choice make it awfully hard not to look at. This visual technique alters the viewer’s perspective and creates a desire for the beautiful female character. At the same time, the male character notices how attractive Banes is, which creates a connection between the viewer and Witwicky. He was zoned out looking at Banes and her body while she talked about his engine. He was in fact so mesmerized by her beauty that he had to look away from her in order to regain focus and continue a normal conversation. The camera angle used by Bay was third person so that the audience could view both Banes and Witwicky’s reaction to her charm. This scene is iconic and famous because it was the first time the audience and Witwicky had seen the full blown beauty of Banes. This scene is also directly correlated to the films major theme of Witwicky becoming a man and starting a relationship with his elementary school crush.

In the beginning of the film, Witwicky is an average high school student who is afraid of all violence and stands clear of women. His life is quickly thrown into chaos and must fight evil forces to survive and save the world. Witwicky’s heroism is very evident during one of the final scenes of the movie. In classic form, Witwicky is almost killed while fighting to save the world. Witwicky is singlehandedly hunted down by Megatron, the leader of all decepticons, because of the cube he possesses and its power to turn ordinary technology into killing machines. From running towards gunfire and explosions, to hopping from building to building, Witwicky graduates into a hero, and ultimately becomes a man. Under the circumstances, many people would not be able to handle the stress and responsibilities put forth on Witwicky. However, He excels with these dangerous tasks, as if he cannot die. Bay also uses visual techniques towards the end of the movie to further show the desire that Witwicky has for Banes’s character. This scene particularly slows down and focuses on Banes crying because of what potentially happened to Witwicky. The camera gazes upon Banes with a beautiful background of the sun to illuminate her face. This is also the first time that Banes and Witwicky kiss, which is a powerful moment in the movie because it was expected of them to start a relationship, given the journey they endured to save the world. The visual technique used by Bay directly relates to the overall theme of the movie in the fact that Witwicky was destined to save the world and fall in love with Banes. Through the power of love, Witwicky was saved, and Banes had fallen for the one man she had no intention of being with.
