Interaction between humans is what makes our world turn. The human race is dependent on the transfer of knowledge through communication. In the beginning of time, if people did not talk to each other, our world would not exist how we know it today. Our technology, our buildings, and inventions of any kind, would not be standing without the sole interactions between humans. Everybody needs someone to rely on, a teacher, a friend, or a family member. Human connection is inevitable for survival and no person can succeed on his or her own. The photograph, taken by Mengenal Candid Photography, proves that humans depend on one another through the use of a particular skeletal frame shot, object to subject family relationship and the grandness of color schemes.

This photo is represented by a long shot angle, meaning the camera is far away from the bodies to capture the entire frame of the photo. The use of the long shot in this specific image is to incorporate the full bodies of the individuals in relative location to their surroundings. Depicted is an older man pointing at a magazine as if he is teaching the young boy to read. At the same time, the bull-like animal is positioned towards the side of the frame. The long shot reviles an outdoor, forest-like setting, possibly somewhere in a jungle based on the amount of green seen in the background. This setting is typical for the bull to be seen in, but not so much for the man and the boy. This creates a question as to why the men and boy are sitting in the forest learning, instead of at home? One could infer the man takes the bull on a walk and the young boy wants to learn from the old man, so he joins. Thus, a dependence chain is created. An inference one could make is the boy relies on the man to teach him, which is why he joined the old man on his walk with the bull. The old man holds onto the rope attached to the animal, which represents their connection and dependence. This could infer the man relies on the bull for food and why he needs to walked. At the same time the bull relies on the man to feed and take care of him, in order to survive and do what the man needs him for. In recap, both the animal and man depend on each other, which is represented by the attached rope. The boy needs the old man to advance, which is represented by the magazine being shared between them. No matter an animal, or a human being, everyone needs someone to lean on in order to survive and succeed.

In this image, the overall colors are dull, passive and diluting to the eye. In the background, the colors are all blurred together creating a hazy image. While in the foreground the image is more sharpened, creating a clearer picture. The only somewhat aggressive colors are the young boy’s yellow shirt and the leaves on the far left of the frame. This makes the left side of the image more attractive to the eye, while drawing attention to the boy himself. Aggressive colors are typically yellows, oranges and reds that come toward the eye more easily than passive colors, which recede into the photo. The leaves on the boy’s side of the frame have a brighter tone, which adds light to the boy, as if he has a spotlight on him. The bright colors demonstrate how the boy is young and coming to life, while the old man depicted in less vibrant hues because most of his knowledge, or brightness, has already escaped into the younger generation. This technique is used to show how the older man is aged and has lived his life. In comparison, the young boy is bright like the sun, which symbolizes his youth. The man is teaching the boy in order to make him more knowledgeable. The boy is depicted with brighter colors so viewers can recognize that he is the one relying on the older man in this instant, while showing their dependence on each other is fresh. Compared to the man and bull who are photographed by duller colors, in order to show their relationship has been around for a while. The different color hues are an important technique to show that dependence can be new or old, but it is indeed needed.

The gaze, or a theory examining subject/object relations, of the man and the boy emphasizes the magazine they are both holding. Both the man and the boy look directly at the magazine, and the man points something out on the page. Emotion is shown on these human ’s faces, which allows witness to interpret what is happening at this given moment. The boy has his mouth closed and looks very focused on what is in front of him, while the old man has his mouth slightly open as if he is talking about what is in front of him to the young boy. The object-oriented attention suggests the older man helps the younger boy understand the magazine and how to read. The boy seems to be understanding or attempting to understand what the man is saying as he is looking directly where the man is pointing on the page and seems very focused. This is inferred because of the creases on his forehead of the young boy, which is normally associated with the act of focusing. Also from the technique of the gaze, viewers can see the difference in the child’s and man’s ages. The boy’s face is smooth and new, while the old man is wrinkled and aged. This depicts how the older generations are filled with more knowledge than the new, which shows how the boy is relying on the man to teach him. Education, or the process of learning, is why individuals are so essential to one another. By teaching the young boy, the older man is passing down his knowledge to the youth. This advocates for the reliance we have on each other.

This image defines the argument that both people and animals confide in one another. The long shot, meaning the camera is far away from the bodies, illustrates the importance of dependence. The object-oriented gaze shows the passing down of knowledge from the older generation to the current generation. The passive color in relation to the young boy’s vibrant colors resembles the defiance of youth and education. The young boy values the older man’s knowledge of education as well as important life lessons on how to survive and prosper in the world. The animal and the man are both older and are codependent on one another. We all need to one another to learn from in order to survive in this world.
