This is the toughest debate one can ever cross, in my opinion. Two incredible works of art that are so followed fans go to any lengths to lead a life that follows these tales of heroic acts. Both series have multiple parts and have movies that fall in some of the highest rated movies of all time. In this argument, I will try my hardest to not be biased but as a disclaimer I will say Lord of the Rings is worlds better than Star Wars. I will happily discuss key points from each film and their strengths and weaknesses. Both films have gotten an amazing following, from fans dressing up as characters to kids longing to be someone from the franchise, both films have fueled the imagination of people all over the world.

The Lord of the Rings was written by J.R.R Tolkien and is one of the best-selling books in the world. The title refers to the series main antagonist Dark Lord Sauron who made a ring earlier in time to conquer all middle earth. The story starts out in an unlikely place, that being the shire. The shire is the home of Bilbo Baggins and Frodo Baggins, among other hobbits. The unlikely hobbits stumble upon a ring, the one ring that Sauron lost in battle against Isildur who slayed him. Isildur let his fame go to his head and was assassinated, losing the ring in a river. Sméagol, a hobbit happened upon this ring and let it consume him until he turned into Golem. Golem found his way into a cave where he lost his precious ring, where Bilbo Baggins happened upon it, this jumpstarted his journey. The unlikely nine became the fellowship of the ring, and their one goal was to destroy the ring by traveling across middle earth. However, their hero conquest never fully completed circle because the ring was destroyed by accident instead of fulfilling prophecy.

The Star Wars saga which was created by George Lucas is an epic space ballad, where Luke Skywalker proves the force is in him by destroying the death star. The rebel alliance has one goal in mind and it is too rescue Princess Leia by destroying the Empire. The story of an unlikely hero that trains to be a Jedi under Obi-Wan Kenobi in order to fight Darth Vader. This saga jump started people’s fascination with space and science fiction. Not only did the story gain an amazing following but it turned around the media world and began to jumpstart the new world of movies.

These two movies have created different worlds that have been books, movies, and even video games. However, The Lord of the Rings has taken a whole work of art and made it into something beautiful, from creating languages to new races. Star Wars does the same thing yet you can learn Elvish. The two movies have a large group of comparisons from two dark forces that should be taken over by the light for the betterment of the entirety of the Galaxy or all Middle Earth. I believe the mixture of light and dark is the biggest comparison, dark forces have become prominent forces in each world that alliances are vital to survival and not complete annihilation.

In conclusion, each has devoted followers who would fight to argue why each of the series is better than the other. From the mystifying fantasy that lie behind The Lord of the Rings to the galaxy that Star Wars takes us too. These both entail a story where light overcomes darkness in both different yet charming ways that keep us coming back for more. I will always be a faithful fan to both.
