In Alex Pardee’s drawing, Night of the Treeple, he uses simple, cool colors to bring out the gloominess of the drawing and its meaning. In most of his artwork, his work is very twisted, dark, and would seem very peculiar to most individuals. He also does a lot of black and white artpieces that have just a little bit of vibrant colors to make the artwork standout, by doing this he brings out the most important aspects in his artwork. With this individual piece of art, it simply shows a man leaning down on the ground, holding a growing plant while parts of a tree are growing out of his body. This art is very simple, but it has a huge meaning behind it that I feel many individuals could understand which is what makes his artwork unique. He uses simple, twisted art to speak to his spectators and these simple pieces of art have a huge message that is hiding beneath them.

His portfolio, Night of the Treeple, has many different pieces of art that show different people with trees growing from different parts of their body. His overall message seems to be that even though people may feel like they are dying on the inside, they still have a lot of life to live and they must grow from what has happened in their past. This individual piece caught my attention due to the fact that it an adolescent boy kneeling down as if he is about to give up on life and he is just begging for a reason not to give up. The boy is black and white, with a few hints of green in his hair and his shirt which shows that he does still have a little bit of light and color in his life, so he has not completely given up yet. In Alex Pardee’s artwork, it seems like the individual parts that are drawn in black and white are what is slowly dying in his artwork, but the colors that he uses symbolizes the life that is still hidden within the individual parts of his artwork.

The boy is holding a small plant in his hands that looks like the tree that is coming out of his back; the small plant is growing and has hints of blue in the pot that is holding it and within the tree itself. This part of the artwork shows that the boy wants to be worth something and that he is slowly trying to move on from his life, which is why the small tree is growing. The small tree that he is holding is showing that the boy still has a little bit of hope and I think that if the boy’s hope in life began to grow than the small tree he is holding would also grow and blossom into a huge, strong tree. Even though the tree in the boy’s hands is not fully grown, it is still growing instead of dying which symbolizes that the boy is not ready to just give up and die yet but he wants to continue to grow and live he just does not have much hope in doing so. He is holding that small tree like it is all he has left and that the tree is the only hope he has left in continuing to live. The small tree is very important to him, which is why he seems to be looking at for answers on what to do with his life. He does not know whether to give up or continuing living, which is why he is looking to his last bit of hope that seems to be slowly growing.

The small tree looks very similar to the huge tree that is growing out of the boys back, it seems gloomy and dark like it wants to wither away but it is actually continuing to grow very strong. The big tree has blue and purple wrapping around its trunk, while the leaves of the tree are very black; this goes to show that the tree growing out of the boy is full of life and hope and even though the leaves are black it makes the color of the actually tree stand out more. The black leaves may symbolize the struggles that the boy will have to go through in life to continuing living and getting over his past. The big tree shows that the boy does have a chance to have a new life and start over and even though he may have obstacles during his journey, he should still have hope and continue to fight through his life.

There is a root growing out of the boys leg, that has very few colors in it but it still looks like it is trying to grow and not wither away. This roots looks like it symbolizes the boys past and what is holding him back from living his life because it is growing out of his leg and seems to be trying to grow through the rest of his body. Roots are the strongest part of the tree and it is what begins a tree, which is why it is so hard for the boy to continue on with his life. He has a huge root holding him back and he is letting the root slowly take over his body. Even though he does have a root holding him down, he can use that root to continue to grow and nourish from it like a tree is suppose to do. The root is suppose to be used to give the tree its nutrients so that it can grow, so if the boy learns how to use the root to his advantage then he can also nourish and grow like a tree is supposed to do. If the boy learns how to use his past and have hope in his life, then he can finally move on and grow into the huge tree that he is suppose to grow into.

Night of the Treeple is a very influential piece that has a message of showing people that even if something is holding you back, you must learn from it and move on. People must use their roots to grow into the strong tree they were supposed to grow into, instead of giving up and withering away. The boy wants to much to give up and let his roots take over him, but he needs to look at his hope and just let it grow so that the big tree can continue to grow and nourish. People must learn how to use their roots to help them nourish instead of letting their roots hold them down from living their life. It was very influential how the colors of the art piece brought out the message, that Alex Pardee was trying to show his spectators, even more.
