Star Wars, notorious around the world for being so creative that only a genius could have the mind to think of, is a set of two trilogies (as of now) and takes place in a so called “galaxy far far away.” The two trilogies bring much argumentation to the average viewer on whether or not the second trilogy should come first, along with the argument on whether or not there should have even been a second trilogy. In what order should a viewer watch the six movies? The similarities and differences in the first trilogy and the second trilogy are so entertaining, yet misunderstood, that people have contemplated for years whether the stories are too similar, and in a way, follow the same plot. I believe that in both cases, the films by George Lucas should remain as they are, and are very well-made, bringing a type of entertainment that no other director has brought forth to society. In order to make sense of the first trilogy, the second trilogy was released time by time to show how events panned out thirty years previous.

“The world is not to be put in order. The world is order. It is for us to put ourselves in unison with this order.” These are the wise words of Henry Miller, a genius in the categories of literature and fiction. People can argue as much as they want on the order in which George Lucas released and continues to release his galactic, fictional films Star Wars, but if it was in any other order, would it be named as classic and standout as it is today?

The first trilogy consists of the three movies; A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. The titles of each movie basically explains in a nut shell the plot of the series. A New Hope for the fact that the Jedi have a chance to take the newly formed empire down, The Empire Strikes Back for the fact that the Empire feels a disturbance in the force, and as we will find out later in the second trilogy, tries to intercept their second Jedi Skywalker, and last but not least, Return of the Jedi for the fact that Luke returns and takes on the Empire.

The second trilogy is set thirty-two years before the original series. This series does not follow the exact same name game as the original series, but the argument is whether or not the plot is too similar. The second trilogy starts with The Phantom Menace, then Attack of the Clones, and finally Revenge of the Sith. Analysts and fans have contemplated for many years whether or not George Lucas just re-made his original trilogy to lead up to his second trilogy, which in opposite order, follows up to his original plot. Analyzing all six movies, someone who has only watched the series once or twice may only catch the basics of the plot, but someone who really looks further into the details of Star Wars realizes that the similarities and differences appear very often throughout the comparative trilogies. For example; In the first trilogy, second episode, The Empire Strikes Back, Luke Skywalker is targeted by Darth Vader and the Sith lord to strengthen the force of the dark side. Yoda, being Luke’s Jedi master, warns Luke of the evil sides of the force. He is scared Luke will make the terrible mistake and follow the dark path of fear and Evil. Luke becomes intimidated that his family and friends are in danger and escapes Dagobah to the city in the clouds, where the princess and Han Solo are held captive. He is met by a trap that Vader has set in order to fool Luke into following that path Yoda aggressively warned Luke about. Luke does not follow the path that his father, Anakin once followed. In the second trilogy, Yoda and the Jedi masters were afraid of the same issue, and things took a turn for the worst. The force was so strong in the Skywalker background that in both trilogies, the main question became more of an issue to keep the force away, than to empower the force for the greater good. Anakin Skywalker was targeted by the Sith lord who was thought to be a Jedi, but took the road to form an evil empire. He was successful in creating a Sith lord, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker’s father. Throughout the trilogies an evil side is portrayed in the modernized Star Wars, while an innocent, yet very accomplished young Skywalker is presented. Although the trilogies are very similar, they take completely different paths.

A very contemplated issue, but simple resolution, is the question of what order to watch the two trilogies? The question, getting a laugh out of Star Wars experts, is without a doubt the way that the movies were released. George Lucas has a net worth of 4.2 billion dollars for a reason. Trust in George Lucas as Luke trusts in the force.

Star Wars is without a doubt one of the most influential, distinct movies that has been part of our society for many decades and many decades to come as long as George Lucas is still alive. Star Wars, in some viewer’s eyes, should have been created differently, in a different order, or simply just never continued. For those who believe in any of these three issues, that is just absolutely moronic, absurd, and simply out of the question. The series is similar for fact that both trilogies are leading up to the takeover of the Empire, but its differences are vast and extreme. Without the storyline George chose, the story would not be as entertaining and widely discussed in society. This contemplation, which would not be present, has brought Lucas so much wealth that it would be simply ignorant to make the claim that anything should be done different.
