The shows Veep and Parks and Recreation are two shows that are both similar and very different. Both shows are about politics and the interworking of this part of the government, but there are many differences within each form of government. Veep is about the Federal government where the main character is running for president, while Parks and Recreation involves local government in one tiny town in the country, or more specifically, the small Parks and Recreation branch.

In the show Veep, they show us how the people in the government really act. Some of the writers of the show have been involved in government in the past, so while it is definitely not completely accurate, it comes closer than most shows that involve government do. The characters in the show that are in the government are way more unqualified and clueless than one would expect a government official to be. They talk about the general population like they are all under them and that they are all babbling idiots.

Parks and Recreation takes a different approach to the portrayal of government. Some of the characters actually care about the betterment of their community and they try their best to help those around them. That being said, not all of the characters think that way as some of them do not like the government in the ways that other do and do not take it anywhere near as seriously as others. None of them are as bad as the people in Veep in the way that everyone looks down on everybody else and how they treat others.

Veep is about a higher form of government than Parks and Recreation is. In the former, the main character, Selena Meyer, is involved in the Federal government and is running for President of the United States, while in the ladder, the main character, Leslie Knope, is involved in local government and eventually runs for City Council. Part of the reason that Veep may have more cynical character than Parks and Recreation is that they are involved with everybody in the country while the ladder is involved with just their small town in which they live. It also seems like the members of Veep take their jobs a little more seriously than the members of Parks and Recreation do. They seem to be more focused on their job than the other aspects of their day to day lives.

Some of the differences may be attributed to the genre of the two shows. While both may be classified as a comedy, Veep is more of a drama and more of a serious show, while Parks and Recreation is more of a comedy than Veep is. Both shows are obviously classified as a political satire.

While there may be a lot of differences in the two shows, there are also a few similarities to go along with it. Both of the shows focus on government and in turn, both focus on helping the community. They are both in some form of government and therefore both want to help make the United States a better place.

In conclusion, Veep and Parks and Recreation are both political satires that have some similarities and many differences. Some of those differences being what form of government they are in, how seriously they take their jobs, how they view people and what they think of those people. Some similarities are that they both work in government and want to make their communities a better place. Veep is basically a more serious version of Parks and Recreation in a higher form of government.
