A mask is used to silent someone in order stay obedient. At 1: 21 in the video, Lupe Fiasco enters the bus and sits down in the back. The shot is panoramic to show the whole bus. All the people on the bus turn around when Lupe Fiasco, who is the only passenger without a mask on, starts to rap. This establishes an object-oriented shot, to show the viewer what is the most important in the scene. All the people are participating in their normal day and so is he, however he is doing it without a mask. They all turn around when he starts talking, with confused looks on their faces. Lupe Fiasco is not looking at them he is staring straight into the camera, or the viewer.

Society can become blinding and distort our vision of what we actually believe is right or wrong. Moments before the scene at 5:29 the screen is black and white, and then it becomes clear and vivid when the woman takes her mouth barrier off. The shot is a close-up of her face and her facial expression is happy and bright. This facial expression is the first times one of the masked people have any expression besides a blank absent one. This woman takes her mask off when she sees the Lupe Fiasco sticker, following in his footsteps of not wearing the mask and speaking out.

Silence in society creates room for one person to dictate the way it functions. In the first shot, 1:21, Lupe Fiasco refuses to be silent and uses a loud speaker on the bus to voice his words. Fiasco is shown in a object oriented shot because what he is saying is important. An object-oriented shot is when everyone is focused on the same object, further showing the conformity within the group of masked people. Once he begins speaking the masked people immediately turn around confused as to why he does not have a mask on. The masked people represent the people in society who reaming quiet in the face of morally corrupt situations. Fiasco refuses to be silent when he does not agree with what is going on. The masks also represent people covering things up and being corrupt. Since the masks represent society, Fiasco is choosing to ignore the threatening looks of the masked people. This is Fiasco not conforming to societies standards and accepting the consequences of speaking gout whatever they may be. In the second shot, 5:29, the woman’s vision clears when she sees the Lupe Fiasco sticker. This shot is important because it only shows her face, singling out her and her newfound way of thinking. She can finally see clearly now and chooses to not remain silent. She is jumping on board with Fiasco and is ready to fight for what she believes in. The mask silences the voice of the people in return brainwashing them and forcing them to conform to it’s standards. If people allow societies standards to dictate their lives they will become the masked people trapped, clone like people who are oppressed because they refused to stand up for what is right.
