#WHEREISTHELOVE is a music video that was released September 2016 on “Youtube.” This is a remix of The Black Eyed Peas song by the same name from 2003. The subject matter of the video released in 2016 focuses on the events happening in today’s time, such as the controversial presidential election, race riots, police brutality, and many more. The group includes multiple celebrities from the U.S. in their video to show the shock that they have about what is going on in our world today. In “#WHEREISTHELOVE,” the message is that unbalanced politics and social stigmas of the world are slowly turning it into a sad place, this is shown through the video’s camera angles, color scheme, and celebrity appearances.

The video opens with Will.I.Am sitting in a chair delievering the opening lyrics. The shot is a close up on the artist’s face, to draw a significance to the words instead of himself. A close up is a shot from the shoulders up, it is used to show emotion from the subject to the audience. The shot makes the viewer’s senses intensified because their only focus is what the subject is saying and how the subject is acting. The color scheme used is dark monochromatic color wheel; one color used in different shades to provide a defined mood, or set thoughtfulness to the piece. The video uses the fade away effect, transitioning from one person or image to the other without being abrupt. Throughout most of the video this type of shot and color scheme are used. The band wants the audience to be focused on lyrics of their outrage instead of what they were doing and wearing.

The second image chosen is towards the end of the video, when the band is repeating, “Where is the love?” There is a group of children of all races shown singing the line in unison like a choir. A medium shot is used for the scene to be more descriptive. It symbolizes that children singing to make the video illustrate that our children are being affected by our actions. In this case, the camera is actually higher than the children, looking down on them to illustrate their youth and need for guidance. This type of shot is called a “Bird’s Eye View,” meaning it is an elevated view of an object. Throughout the whole video, the color scheme of it is monochromatic. The children are seen wearing dark clothing, as well as being in a black room. The background during the video showing the band, celebrities, or children was dark, making the focus of the viewer on the people and what the message of the song is. The addition of the children pulls on the emotions of those watching it, because it shows how children are being affected by the choices we make in the world especially in America.

The different camera angles, color scheme, and the images put in throughout the video along with the lyrics depict what the group wants the viewers to feel while watching. The context of the images work well with the lyrics and would not be understood well without them. Without the lyrics, the video would just be celebrities sitting in a dark room. The video wouldn’t have the same meaning or serious factor that it does with the words. The video discusses a wide range of recent events that have gone on in the United States and the world. The Black Eyed Peas want to draw attention to these horrible things, such as the presidential race and world wide tensions, and show that they are against what is going on. A$ap Rocky, one of the artists featured in the video, says that the election is a joke, because Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are just trying to beat each other, not by making our country better for all. Both candidates are only trying to push their own agendas forward for those in their parties and not worrying about the wellbeing of America in general. The audience of the video is the people around America and the surrounding countries that the same things apply to. With the events that occurred in France a year ago, this applies to them because of the ever present racial tensions between the French and the refugees constantly flooding in. The tensions escalated to a terrorist attack that killed over a hundred people and injured even more. Syria is also in need in some love in their country because of the ongoing civil war in their country; ISIL has taken control of the country causing race riots, civil uprisings, and unrest throughout the state. The world has never be so susceptible to violence and hate. The group just wants people to get along and to make them stop questioning where world peace is. Race is brought up multiple times throughout the video and how we can not hate everybody that is not the same as us, that would make us all racists. The use of the different shades of black throughout the video are to signify death and sadness in the world; however the singers feel that no one has done their job in trying to fix it. The video’s message is strong, and by drawing little attention to themselves during the piece, the audience's’ focus is on the words and images described.

In #WHEREISTHELOVE The Black Eyed Peas use their social platform to raise awareness of the injustices, terrorism, and wrongful media attention that is surrounding our world today. By using the different camera angles, color schemes, and various shots the video helps convey the lyrics in a way that makes people watch and actually listen to the message. The Black Eyed Peas want the public to be aware that every human being is on the same level and that one race is no better than the other. They also want us to know that the political nature of the world and the bureaucrat system, in America especially, is damaged.
